Justin Bieber just released a new song called “What Do You Mean?” It’s the first single from his upcoming album, and it comes with a skateboard-heavy lyric video. If you’re wondering what the song is like, just imagine Katy Perry’s “Hot N Cold,” except it’s about a girl instead of a guy, and it’s also less catchy and way more repetitive. Also the video doesn’t feature any fun colors or crazy outfits. Here’s a little preview of some of the lyrics to give you an idea of what I’m talking about:

When you nod your head yes, but you wanna say no, what do you mean?

When you don’t want me to move, but you tell me to go, what do you mean?

First you wanna go to the left, then you wanna turn right.

First you’re up, then you’re down, and then between.

Yeah, okay. We get it. She changes her mind like a girl changes clothes. She PMSes like a bitch you would know. Oh wait, that doesn’t really work if the subject actually is a girl. Funny how Katy managed to insult her own gender in a song criticizing a guy, huh?

But I digress. This song is obviously about Selena Gomez, right? Last month when the single was announced, Justin explained to Ryan Seacrest that it’s about how “flip floppy” girls can be.

“Girls are often just flip floppy. They say something and then they mean something else. I mean, I don’t really know. That’s why I’m asking, ‘What do you mean?’”

Flip floppy, eh? In addition to giving me flashbacks to the 2004 presidential election, that certainly makes me think of Bieber’s relationship with Selena. They were more off and on than a light switch. Or a television. Or a temperamental Game Boy. Or other things people turn on and off a lot. One minute she’s riding segways with him, the next minute she’s saying she doesn’t want to be associated with him. What do you mean, Selena?
