June Shannon Loses Over 100 lbs The Normal Hollywood Starlet Way
On the first season of Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, “Mama” June Shannon joined her daughters in trying to lose a bit of weight. She didn't lose any at the time, and she seemed pretty okay with it. She must have doubled down on her efforts, though, because a new TMZ report says she's lost over 100 lbs since America first met her, dropping from 365lbs to 263. Impressive!
And how, pray tell, did she achieve this remarkable feat? From a grueling weight loss regimen of “running around and going different places.” “I haven't done any surgeries … no diet pills … never went to the gym,” she tells TMZ. “But with the show I've been more active. They have me running around and going different places … I guess it's paying off.”
Don't get me wrong: I'm happy June lost some weight, because obesity can be a major factor in health problems like diabetes and heart disease. But is it really that easy to lose 100 lbs? Her answer sounds a little like all those annoyingly skinny actresses who say they lost their baby weight “chasing their kids around” or “from their busy schedules,” when in actuality, it was hard fucking work.
Then again, if June had an intensely sedentary lifestyle prior to doing the show, it's possible that even a moderate amount of physical activity could have been the catalyst for weight loss. Maybe? (I'm not a doctor.)
Or maybe there's a third option: once you get sufficiently famous, your body chemistry changes such that the average energy expenditure per pound required to lose weight gets much, much lower. It's just a theory, but it would explain a lot.
