Joss Whedon Knows the Plot and Some Songs of ‘Dr. Horrible’ Sequel

By  |

Be still, our geeky hearts! In a recent interview with Joss Whedon, the New York Times didn't shy away from asking about the Dr. Horrible sequel — and Whedon had something concrete to say!

Though he's considered fleshing out Dr. Horrible with the unused songs he'd already written and bringing it to Broadway, Whedon said,

“But I would say my heart is more in the idea of the sequel. We've done a lot of work on it… We’ve got several songs near completion and we’ve got a very specific structure. We’ve just all got jobs. And it’s not like Neil [Patrick Harris], Nathan [Fillion] and Felicia [Day] ain’t busy either. We get together at Christmas and family occasions, and then play each other our partial songs and go, ‘Yup, that’s still exactly as it was the last time we played it. We’re great.' It’s bad.”

Whedon wouldn't divulge any plot details, however, or even song titles. He did, however, compare the musical to rash decisions that men his age and older have made: “Some mid-life crises are cars. They cost about this much. Mine has songs in it.”

Since Whedon is currently gearing up to direct the star-studded Avengers film, we won't be seeing Dr. Horrible, Captain Hammer, or (the ghost of) Penny for quite some time. But as the Dr. Horrible companion guide reminds us, the original came together in a matter of weeks. Maybe everyone's hiatuses will match up at the same time and we'll go have another fantastic Internet musical.
