The ‘Who You Love’ Video Proves Katy Perry Is Way More Into This Than John Mayer
John Mayer just went on Good Morning America to release the video for ‘Who You Love', a song he wrote with current girlfriend and worshipper-of-his-brain Katy Perry and I can't decide if it's the best thing I've ever seen or the worst. Certainly the most uncomfortable.
It seems to take some of its inspiration from Kanye West‘s video for ‘Bound 2' in that it features an inequal couple doing really intimate couple-y things astride some mode of transportation. While ‘Bound 2' had Kimye mounting each other atop a motorcycle, ‘Who You Love' has John and Katy riding a mechanical bull and singing into each other's open mouths. Like most things these two do together, it seems destined to end in regret, as history suggests that these two will indeed break up again. And yet there they are, singing their duet and loving up on each other as if they'll always be in nose-touching love.
It also has a bunch of other real-life couples doing the same thing, which is kind of cute, but it's hard for me to rustle up too much emotion about that because I'm super distracted noticing how much more into John Katy is than he's into her. Did that sentence make sense? I don't know. Just look into her eyes as she gazes adoringly at him and he gazes bemusedly back, and you'll see what I mean.
Plus as they're premiering the video, GMA producers keep cutting away to the studio to capture John and Katy taking it in, and she's stroking his back and just admiring his brain from afar and DID HE JUST SHAKE HER HAND AT THE END? Oh my god I can't take it.
Or maybe I have to watch it twenty more times in a row? I really can't decide, but I know there's no middle ground. YOU LOVE WHO YOU LOVE.
