Joe Manganiello Had to Choose Between Being a Werewolf or Superman

Before Hollywood lookalike Henry Cavill got cast as the new Superman, True Blood‘s hot werewolf Joe Manganiello was a frontrunner for Zack Snyder‘s take on the famous comics hero. Although the man known as Alcide was very tight-lipped about his possible involvement with the project while casting deliberations were still going on, he's now revealed that there was a point where it was looking like he'd be covering up those beloved abs with the traditional red-and-blue suit.

“At the end of the day they wanted me to screen test and they actually asked for my measurements for the suit and everything,” he said in a recent interview. “Their shoot date switched and it would have taken up 11 weeks out of my True Blood schedule. At the end of the day, we couldn’t get the schedule to work so that I could go off and screen test. So, regrettably, I never got to go screen test, I never got to put the suit on.”

I don't know why, but this makes me a little sad inside. Perhaps it's because Manganiello seems wistful at the missed opportunity. As much as celebs have it all, it must be difficult when — as in any job — preexisting commitments can eliminate new directions in one's craft. Then again, he's got a sure thing going with HBO's True Blood, especially since creator Alan Ball has hinted that things may heat up between Sookie and Alcide this season.
