J.K. Rowling Regrets Setting Up Ron And Hermione, Proving Once And For All Magic Isn’t Real

Take a good look at that adorable GIF of Ron and Hermione giggling sweetly. Really soak it up. Appreciate it for one last moment before I blow it all to smithereens. How can I destroy that cute couple? By telling you that J.K. Rowling regrets Ron and Hermione's romance.

I grew up on Harry Potter. I got each book as soon as it was released and I cared for the characters as someone cares for their favorite celebrities – I rooted for them, I Googled pictures of them, I actually cried when (spoiler alert from 10 years ago!) Sirius Black died. So to hear that J.K. Rowling is having second thoughts on Ron and Hermione's relationship is akin to hearing the truth about Santa Claus as a child. Is nothing good in this world real?

In an interview I wish I had never read, the author admitted:

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment. That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility. Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not.”

Breaking people's hearts? Ms. Rowling, what will you tell us next?! That Cory and Topanga are getting a divorce? Did Kristen Bell and Dax Shephard fake that whole privately beautiful wedding? Far be it from breaking people's hearts, you're shaking the very foundation of our outlook on love! This isn't Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth breaking up and losing engagement rings, this is real love crumbling beneath us. All in all, this news proves that in no way, shape or form is magic real. If two wizards with wands at their disposal can't make a go of it, there's no chance for us muggles. You might as well have sent a dementor my way, for it feels like my soul has been sucked out of my body.
