Jessica Simpson’s Abuse Claim

By  |

Jessica Simpson has had a few rotten relationships. Nothing too dramatic. I mean, by the time I was her age….. (eeek – I shutter to think). She had what seemed like a fairy tale marriage to Nick Lachey, but it's obvious those two were not meant to be together. After her divorce, however, she tried to date a lot of really different guys. And this was a smart thing. When you marry so young (and especially because she met Nick when she was very young), you really don't get to see what types of people would be the best ones for you.

And now, she's gone country. While it might be a clich√© that country music is all about lost love and anguish, Jessica is using her songs to get the gripes about her failed relationships off her chest. These days, she's getting a lot of attention for the song, “Remember That” which supposedly reflects her “abusive relationship with an unnamed ex.” ~source

Also, for those of you that might think it's John Mayer (as I did for some reason when I first heard this – must be the whole dying her hair thing) I doubt that it was, because she said, “He cherished our love. He helped make me the woman I am today.”

I also question exactly what type of abuse she suffered. I'm not trying to be cynical, but for someone like Jess that's had a relatively charmed life, someone telling her they didn't love her might be labeled as abuse in her book.

I'm not the only one who's questioning this. X17 gave some additional info on the interview Jessica did with Elle magazine. When Jessica brought this up, the Elle writer asked her, “I understand you've felt emotionally abused, but you're not telling me that you've experienced physical abuse as well, are you?”

“I don't want to talk about it,” Jess responded, after pausing, “but I have definitely experienced abuse in a way that I would tell people to take their heart and run.”

X17 goes on to say:

“Hmm, sorry, we're a little confused… didn't Ms. Simpson bring this all up in the first place? Feels kinda like her confession is only a half-truth! Either A, she's just opening up (it's not like she owes the world to reveal something personal) and that's totally okay… or B, she's just trying to promote her album.”

Abuse doesn't happen because you can't have your way or someone doesn't think you're the hottest thing on the planet. It doesn't come from someone cheating on you. It doesn't come from someone deciding one day that they don't really love you.

I know a lot of women who have suffered physical and emotional abuse. I am one of them. So I know this subject very well. I'd like to believe Jess, but I fear she might be throwing the word “abuse” around very lightly.

But, as always, I'm more interested in what you think. Do you think Jessica was really abused?
