Even though last year played host to a lot of celebrity breakups, the split that hit us the hardest was the breakup of Bennifer Take 2 aka Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner. After three kids and 10 years of marriage, they announced they were divorcing last June. Almost immediately rumors surfaced that Ben’s relationship with his children’s nanny had something to do with the marriage ending. Now we getting some truth on the matter thanks to Jennifer’s new interview with Vanity Fair. After clarifying that their marriage was “real” and “wasn’t for the cameras”, Jennifer dives into the nanny affair rumors. “Let me just tell you something. We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny. She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation. Bad judgment? Yes. It’s not great for your kids for [a nanny] to disappear from their lives,” she said not really confirming the affair, but not really denying it either.

Either way, Jennifer still admits that Ben is “the love of [her] life” adding “What am I going to do about that? He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”

One thing that probably made Jennifer feel a tiny bit better about her split from Ben was seeing the insane back tattoo of a phoenix he got shortly after their breakup. She says as much in the interview giving some shade that, frankly, I didn’t see coming from someone prompting a movie called Miracles from Heaven. Jennifer told the magazine, “You know what we would say in my hometown about that? ‘Bless his heart.’ A phoenix rising from the ashes. Am I the ashes in this scenario? I take umbrage. I refuse to be the ashes.” Go, Jennifer. If anything should be a tattoo, it’s that.
