Jake Gyllenhaal’s Happy Taylor Swift Wrote A Song About Him, And Other Fairy Tales

Taylor Swift I like to write songs

In a ten hundred billion word interview in New York Magazine with Taylor Swift, the pop star hints that Jake Gyllenhaal enjoyed the fact that she wrote a song about him. Which I totally believe. Because duh. What guy wouldn't appreciate his ex-girlfriend writing a song (or several) about their relationship. It's like the next best thing to someone not sharing intimate details about your time together with the world.

“I heard from the guy that most of Red is about,” Swift said. “He was like, ‘I just listened to the album, and that was a really bittersweet experience for me. It was like going through a photo album.' That was nice. Nicer than, like, the ranting, crazy e-mails I got from this one dude. It's a lot more mature way of looking at a love that was wonderful until it was terrible, and both people got hurt from it—but one of those people happened to be a songwriter.”

While her code of chivalry stopped her from name dropping him in the lyrics, everyone knows that Red might as well be named "Jake Gyllenhaal was here!" It has their relationship just splashed all over it. And by their relationship, I mean that ONE photo we have of the two of them walking together. Seriously look up their names on Google Images and that's the only thing that comes up. But whatever, let's pretend the relationship was real enough to merit several songs. And let's pretend that he appreciated her writing songs about him. And finally, while we're playing make-believe, let's pretend that writing songs about ex-boyfriends is considered mature behavior and not completely vindictive and selfish.

Because some people, some cynical people might look at the name dropping as an easy way to guarantee press for an album. But not me. No sirree. I just think it's Taylor's way of reflecting on heartbreak. If it happens to get her tons of attention or make her obscene amounts of money along the way, so be it. She's just a girl singing songs and collecting thank yous.
