Iggy Azalea Throws Major Shade Lorde’s Way, So Brace Yourself For Some Backlash
Iggy Azalea has a bone to pick with Lorde right now, and it's not over who has the weirdest made-up pop star name. No, it has to do with Lorde performing with the surviving members of Nirvana at a Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. While I thought it was kind of awesome that a young, female performer would be asked to do something like that – though Lorde is awesome, after all – Miss I-G-G-Y (ugh, sorry) does not agree.
“Nothing against her, but I think when you're doing a tribute to someone that's dead, generally it should be the person's peer. Lorde is not Kurt Cobain's peer. No matter if she killed the performance or not, I just don't think it's appropriate.”
Ooh girl, why so shady? I mean, she can't be jealous really, since she's not quite ‘Kurt Cobain's peer' either, so what gives? What's especially interesting about this is that not so long ago, Lorde went on a rant in defense of Iggy in lieu of Complex magazine's unfavorable review of her album. They had a nice, heartwarming Twitter moment that even included the hashtag #GoGirl, so naturally assumed they had become best friends forever. I even pictured them uniting together as musical ambassadors from Australia and New Zealand, forging the rough American pop culture terrain together. Sigh.
Joan Jett also performed at the tribute, and I don't see any shade being thrown her way. (I wouldn't exactly consider her a member of the Kurt Cobain Peer Club either, but that's just me.) As of now, Lorde hasn't acknowledged or responded to Iggy Azalea's comments, but stay tuned. As we all know, she usually can't resist chiming in on matters like this – and we love her for it.
