I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was for last night’s episode of How I Met Your Mother. I feel like I have been waiting for this moment forever. So I’m happy to report that it didn’t disappoint. The return of Robin Sparkles was everything I hoped it would be and more.

Robin’s past life as a teenage pop star in Canada is quite frankly one of the best story lines on this show. Her whole persona is just so hilariously ridiculous, and the complete opposite of the person she’s become. I have to admit I’ve always been curious how she went from being the bedazzled- jean-jacket-wearing pop tart to the Scotch-drinking, gun-toting Robin we all know and love.

Last night, I finally got my answer. While in Canada searching for the ex-boyfriend that supposedly took out a restraining order on his fiancé, Barney learns about some never before seen Robin Sparkles footage. The special was hilarious, thanks in part to the multiple celebrity cameos. (Seriously, Dave Coulier doing “cut it out. I died.) Though, things took a turn when Canada discovered their sweetheart had a dark side and her name was Robin Daggers.

Robin’s spiral down a dark and twisted path is prompted by a man, of course. So naturally, Barney spends the entire episode trying to figure out his identity. Was it Simon (James Van Der Beek) or Alan Thicke? Nope, Robin’s unreleased record “P.S. I Love You” was about Paul Schaffer, obviously. You see what she did there? P.S. = Paul Shaffer. It was quite clever, and also absolutely hysterical.

Speaking of incredibly creepy stalker-like relationships, I almost forgot about the developments in Ted’s love life this week. I can’t even handle him sometimes. That girl was clearly cuckoo for cocoa puffs, and yet her defended her at every sign of crazy. If anyone ever starts a fire at my job just so I’ll come outside and talk to them, I guarantee you that I (and every other sane human being on this planet) will run in the opposite direction. But we all know that Ted is no ordinary guy. So it shouldn’t have come as a shock to me that after learning that this girl has been stalking him for over a year, he runs into her arms instead of away from them. It shouldn’t have surprised me, but it did.

However, there is a silver lining. Right after we saw Ted getting together with his crazy stalker, he said that every guy makes one big mistake before he meets the girl he’ll one day marry. So while it looks like this psycho is going to be around longer than I’d like, it also looks like we’re getting closer to the mother. So here’s to hoping that this ridiculous relationship doesn’t last too long. Maybe we’ll even get to meet the mother at the end of this season. A girl can dream, right?
