Hollywood Male Stereotypes We’d Like To Stop Seeing in Movies & Shows

We've heard quite a lot about Hollywood's tendency to perpetuate harmful stereotypes of women, whether it's the sneaky gold digger, the damsel in distress, or the manic pixie dream girl. However, what's not discussed as much is the portrayal of stereotypical men in films and movies, which can be equally problematic for all genders.

Most fictional male characters tend to fall into a specific category – and those categories are quite limited. For instance, we're all too familiar with the overconfident players, the sports jocks, and the shy geeks who think it's romantic to stalk their crush. This not only brainwashes us into thinking they're the only types of guys who exist, but it also tricks men into thinking that they should look and act a certain way to be seen as the ultimate male who has it all. These overused tropes have been recycled constantly and to be honest, we're getting so tired of them. We'd much rather see more realistic portrayals of men that reflect how diverse and complex they are, because news flash: not all guys are the same.
