It’s Really Bumming Me Out To See Seal And Heidi Klum Fighting Publicly About Her Affair

By  |

Even though I know that, statistically, every marriage will end in either divorce or death (hurray!), there are some unions that trick me out of that cynical mindset, and Heidi Klum and Seal‘s was one of them. They were one of those power couples who made me believe in love — the blond German Victoria's Secret Angel Heidi arm-in-arm with the chiseled Nigerian-Brazilian recording artist Seal. Everything about them was stunning. Their Halloween costumes every year were legendary. They got engaged on a glacier. They got married on a beach in Mexico. Every year they renewed their wedding vows in lavish ceremonies, each more impressive than the last. They have three kids together and one from Heidi's previous marriage with a string of names that boggle my multicultural imagination: Helene ‘Leni' Boshoven Klum, Henry Gunther Ademola Dashtu Samuel, Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel, and Lou Sulola Samuel. Even just standing next to each other, they looked better than you.

They were together for seven years…and then they broke up. Okay, whatever, it happened. I won't pretend I wasn't devastated, but at least I knew that these two would move forward from their divorce with dignity and respect. Or not. I don't know what happened for sure, but Seal is throwing around cheating allegations that Heidi was involved with her bodyguard Martin Kristen while they were married. Actually, in his words, that she was ‘fornicating' with the help. Those don't sound like the words of the tall dark and handsome side of the perfect marriage that I got so attached to! That sounds like lashing out, and only normal people are supposed to do that! Celebrities are supposed to move gracefully through their lives, stifling all their emotions so that I can be more comfortable believing in romantic comedies and Taylor Swift songs.

Heidi's at least a little on board with what I want and need, as she's issued a statement addressing the cheating allegations:

“I cherish all of the great memories Seal and I created together over the years. Our separation was based on issues between the two of us. Seal has moved on and so have I. My priority has and continues to be protecting and providing for our children.”

Okay, yes, good. That's more like it. This way I can keep believing that the couple's four children can somehow switch places and convince their parents to get back together, a la The Parent Trap. I'm not asking much, Seal and Heidi, but I'm asking this. Please don't be the reason that I stop believing in love.
