I'm sorry to say this morning brings a lot of sad celebrity news. People is reporting that Hayden Panettiere is currently seeking treatment for postpartum depression. Her rep shared the news, saying she is “voluntarily seeking professional help at a treatment center.” The rep adds that Hayden “asks that the media respect her privacy during this time.”

Hayden, 26, is the mother of 10-month-old daughter Kaya Evodokia with her fiancé, 39-year-old boxer Wladimir Klitschko. Coincidentally, Hayden's character Juliette Barnes on ABC's Nashville, whose pregnancy was written into the series last year to coincide with Hayden's, has also been dealing with postpartum depression in a recent storyline.

Hayden was open about her own experience just last month during an appearance on Live! with Kelly and Michael. She said she “can very much relate” to Juliette's struggle, adding this:

“It’s something a lot of women experience. When [you’re told] about postpartum depression you think it’s ‘I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child’ — I’ve never, ever had those feelings. Some women do. But you don’t realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It’s something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they’re not alone, and that it does heal.”

Good for Hayden for being so open about her struggle, and for seeking help. She herself admitted that “there's a lot of misunderstanding” about PPD, including some people who don't believe it's real, so it's wonderful that she's giving a public voice to the experience. No doubt countless women can relate to her struggle. We wish all the best for her, as well as for Wladimir and little Kaya.
