Let’s Have A Moment Of Silence For All The ‘Larry Stylinson’ Fans Crushed By Louis Tomlinson Saying It’s Bullshit

Louis Tomlinson Larry Stylinson bullshit Harry Styles Twitter Eleanor Calder girlfriendThis morning, everything I knew about Larry Stylinson — the nickname that One Direction fans have given to the pairing of Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — changed. When I wrote about this phenomenon in the 1D fandom a month or so ago, the way I understood it was that neither Louis nor Harry had ever actually addressed the fact that fans thought they were secretly in love, even though judging from various .gifs and videos it looked as if they played up flirting and homoerotic touching to get a rise out of the fans.

But now I learn that not only has Louis addressed the pairing, but he thinks — and here's where I know it hit Directioners hard — it's wrong and needs to stop. In mid-September, he sent out a flurry of tweets calling Larry Stylinson “bullshit” and asking fans to get off his back. “I'm happy why can't you accept that,” he wrote, most likely referring to his girlfriend Eleanor Calder. Just a few minutes later, Louis apologized and reiterated how grateful he and the rest of the 1D lads are for their amazingly passionate, loyal fanbase. I had trouble tracking down all of the tweets, but thankfully Sugarscape got a screenshot of the mini-rant:

But lest you think that was the end of things, Sugarscape is again reporting that Louis is still talking about how troubling he finds the Larry fans. According to someone who attended a taping of Alan Carr‘s talk show Chatty Man, Louis said he finds the rumors distressing. “I just think it's really degrading towards her,” he explained, mentioning Eleanor again. What's most fascinating is that he admitted that he'd known about the pairing for a while, but that after a while it became more taxing than fun: “This is a subject that was funny at first but now is actually hard to deal with, as I am in relationship. Me and Harry are best friends. People look into our every move—it is actually affecting the way me and Harry are in public.”

At least one commenter on the Sugarscape article called out Louis on targeting Larry Stylinson fans and said she was “still shipping bullshit, thank you very much.” Directioners, I'm curious to hear how you feel. Is this hitting you hard? Are you excited to see Louis — but not Harry, I noticed — directly addressing this subset of fandom, or does it ruin it somehow? I know that when I was in fandom in the early-to-mid-'00s it was funny when celebrities referenced RPF fics, but my friends and I were never attached to a real-life pairing the way you are.
