The Most Interesting Thing About Hailee Steinfeld Is Her Friendship With Taylor Swift

By now it's been established that Taylor Swift has many, many friends. That collection of friends (which I'm sure she keeps organized by either age or height or last name or how cute they each look in a sundress) includes actress Hailee Steinfeld. You know Hailee Steinfeld. She's Taylor Swift's friend. And the fact that it's getting to the point where I have to introduce her that way makes me think her friendship with Taylor is what's keeping her relevant. Which sucks, because she's an Oscar nominee, for crying out loud.

Hailee's friendship with Taylor is such a huge part of her persona that she talks about it in a recent interview with Nylon magazine. She calls her an “amazing friend,” and then admits that she gets asked about her a lot:

“I always get the ‘Tell us something nobody knows [about Taylor] question,” the actress continues. “And it's like, we both respect each other tremendously, but we choose to keep our friendship out of the public eye. She's a really great person and an inspiration to me and many others.”

But I must ask, if a Hailee Steinfeld does an interview in a magazine and doesn't talk about Taylor Swift, does it even make a sound? It's just kind of the most interesting thing about her. That's partly because a 24-year-old hanging out and baking cookies with a 17-year-old is a little “Huh? Really?”, and partly because Hailee's career hasn't take off like we all thought it would when she gave that great True Grit performance.

There was Romeo & Juliet, which nobody saw, and then Ender's Game, which did not become the next “AHHHH YA FICTION GIVE IT TO ME!!!” movie series people thought it would. She's got more projects lined up, but she still pretty much seems to exist to make appearances on Taylor's Instagram. Plus, she doesn't really have a very well-known personality like one Shailene Woodley. On the one hand, I'd say hold onto those cookie sessions for dear life, because that way we'll remember her, but on the other hand, it'd be cool to see her make it big without standing on Taylor's shoulders. That'll mess up Tay's cardigan, and we can't have that.
