Matt McGinley's Restaurant Guide

Ahhhh...I can't stop sweating. I began layering my drum sticks with gauze everyday to prevent them from torpedo-ing out of my hands due to the humid air.

Right now, we're in New Orleans, and the humidity is unrelenting. We were lucky enough to have a day off yesterday in The French Quarter of the city. I spent a good portion of the day walking past storefront jazz clubs that conjured images of ancient Louis Armstrong performances. From the food to the architecture to the street names, it's very easy to see how French influence is still very much alive in New Orleans culture.

Now, for food. I love traveling to cities with bold culinary personalities. Through touring back and forth across the country with my band, Gym Class Heroes, my geographic perspective has changed. States become restaurants and maps turn to menus, and this is one of my favorite parts of the country to be in. The other day in Austin, I spent time on 6th Street revisiting spots like The Boiling Pot, a casual seafood restaurant Travis and I once ate at. A paper tablecloth is placed down, and your food comes dumped down in front of you from a steaming bucket. My late night spot is a few blocks up the street. Just follow the Slayer tunes to Hoek's Pizza (RIP), or Heavy Metal Pizza, as it's known.

Now that you know my geographic psychology, we also toured Illegal Pete's, Cafe Brazil, and The Land of The Buffet. You'll have to do the research to find out where we were. More pictures and less food next week, I promise! Until then...PEACE!
