Glee’s Matthew Morrison Teases That Will And Emma Might Finally Have Sex

Emma Will have sex Glee spoilers

With so many of the original cast members of Glee graduating with their characters, the only familiar faces at McKinley High will be the faculty: More than ever, we'll have to actually care about Sue Sylvester and Will Schuester's lives since we've developed something approximating a dramatic arc with them over the past three seasons. And Matthew Morrison just gave us something to look forward to: It sounds like Will and fiancée Emma Pillsbury (Jayma Mays) might finally do it.

The Will/Emma love affair has been protracted since season 1 when they had that great kiss set to “My Life Would Suck Without You.” Aside from Will's scheming wife Terri pretending to be pregnant, they were saddled with Emma's crippling OCD, which prevented them from so much as holding hands, much less getting naked together. This was amusing in season 1's Madonna episode, when Emma decided to emulate Madge and take control of her sexuality. “Foreplay shall begin at 7:30 sharp” was one of my favorite lines from Emma that season.

But then Emma freaked at the idea of exchanging bodily fluids and ran away, and I lost interest. I haven't kept up with the show consistently, but obviously they got over the first hurdle of being physical since they've kissed and are engaged. And now we have this small spoiler from Matthew Morrison, after he spoke with Parade while promoting What To Expect When You're Expecting:

The actor, 33, has confirmed there will be no Emma Pillsbury and Schuester wedding, but lit up when asked if the couple will finally consummate their relationship. “You're the first person to ask that. I think you might be on to something there,” he said with a smile. “I cannot confirm or deny that, but that is a wise thing to ask.”

I hope so! Because Emma's inability to even contemplate sex with her fiancé has gone from a comical quirk to making us resent her OCD. And I don't think that's what Ryan Murphy envisioned when he first introduced this character. We shouldn't be impatient with a character who has obsessive-compulsive disorder; we should be sympathetic.

Season 4 will be a year of firsts for Will Schuester and for Matthew Morrison, as the actor talked about how he'll have to adjust to a whole new group of glee club members:

“That's the thing: there is so much unknown next year. It's going to be interesting for me teaching in the choir room next year and seeing a lot of faces I don't know. There are the familiar faces that I always go to like Finn [Cory Monteith] and Rachel [Lea Michele] and it's going to be weird not staring in those eyes.”
