Flight of the Conchords’ Bret McKenzie to Play an Elf (Again) in ‘The Hobbit’

Bret McKenzie, one half of the comedy-singer duo Flight of the Conchords, is no stranger to Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings films. In fact, the New Zealand-born McKenzie appeared as an extra in the trilogy, named “Figwit” (“Frodo is great… who is that?!”) by the fans. With The Hobbit now shooting in NZ, McKenzie will reprise his role, in a sense — he'll play not Figwit, but a Rivendell elf named Lindir.

It's certainly a different look for the scruffy-haired singer, who with buddy Jemaine Clement brought us some truly irreverent songs about relationships, sandwiches, and rapping animals. No word yet on if Clement will also have a cameo in The Hobbit. If that were the case, we're willing to bet that this Conchords bromance could certainly challenge, if not trump, the Dominic Monaghan/Billy Boyd bromance from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
