Emily Blunt Got Caught Trash-Talking Tom Cruise, Should Sleep With One Eye Open

Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise filming Edge Of Tomorrow February 2013If there's one person you don't want to offend in Hollywood, it's Oprah Winfrey. But if there are two people you don't want to offend in Hollywood, it's Oprah and Tom Cruise, which is why Emily Blunt just stepped in it big time by getting caught saying something less than flattering about him.

Obviously Emily and Tom are co-starring in Edge Of Tomorrow, which comes out on June 6th and looks like an action movie version of Groundhog Daybut just because they're doing a project together doesn't mean that he won't unleash his private army of Scientology angels upon her, so she should definitely be sleeping with one eye open. She's done a really good job up until now of making Tom sound lovable in interviews with cute little stories and impressions, but in a recent conversation with a London newspaper, she got called on bad-mouthing Tom almost ten years ago. CURSE YOU MODERN TECHNOLOGY THAT DOES NOT YET INCLUDE TIME MACHINES.

In the interview, which appeared The Telegraph in 2005, Emily said she'd rather do badly-paid theater for the rest of her life than even accept a role ‘as a spear carrier in a Tom Cruise movie'. OH DAMN GIRL. OH DAMN. And to make things worse, when her 2014 interviewer pointed it out, she tried to deny it:

“‘I never said that! What an awful thing to say,' she says, almost spluttering on her iced almond-milk single-shot cappuccino.”

Yeah? You sure?

“I pull out the newspaper clipping (an interview in The Telegraph in 2005) and she roars with laughter. ‘That is so funny. Well, at least I’m not a spear carrier.'”

Hopefully that'll be enough to keep you out of harm's way, but I'll have to check with my experts on Tom's behavior and get back to you. One thing I do know, though, is that Emily was smart to follow up that gaffe with a barrage of positive stories about how great it was to work with him:

“We laughed a lot. That’s the wonderful thing about Tom: he doesn’t take himself that seriously and he is very self-effacing. He couldn’t care less what people think about him – that’s quite refreshing.”

Okay Emily, you've done all you can. Now we wait and watch.
