Ellen DeGeneres Talking About Portia Will Convince You They’re Not Getting Divorced

I'm a pretty cynical person, which means that normally when I hear gossip about celebrities having trouble in their marriages or secretly contemplating divorce, I tend to believe them. Which is why you should take it super seriously that I put absolutely zero stock in the rumors that Ellen DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi are headed for a split.

The two of them have been married since August 2008, but the rumor of their divorce has been swirling around since at least December of 2012, and probably before that, knowing the tabloids. And even though the two of them have obviously stayed together since then and seem more in love than ever (especially based on Ellen's video of herself giving Portia her Christmas present last year), the rumors refused to die. It got so serious that Ellen even decided to address them on the show even though she usually doesn't buy into gossip.

But that silly old rumor mill is still churning, so Ellen gave an interview to People that she hopes will shut it down once and for all, explaining why Portia wasn't wearing her ring in a recent paparazzi photo:

“The tabloids had a photo of Portia not wearing her wedding ring. She goes, ‘I didn't wear it because when I ride horses and I'm holding the reins, it gives me a blister!'”

Yeah that makes sense. I can think of a lot of opportunities when I wouldn't wear my wedding ring if I had one. I barely even wear earrings anymore because I find them uncomfortable.

“The truth is, and this is corny, I fall more in love with Portia all the time. I really do. She surprises me all the time. It's what anyone experiences when you find that person that gets you, wants to take care of you, wants the best for you. We're really lucky because we know how rare it is.”

I mean yeah. That all sounds right to me. For one thing, that's exactly what someone in love would say about the person they're in love with, and for another…I just believe Ellen. I think she's an honest person, and I trust her when she says that if there's ever anything that her audience needs to know, she'll announce it on the show. I don't think she has any reason to lie about that, especially after a tear-jerking, heart-warming line like this one:

“I love her so much it kills me.”

Definitely not something you say about someone you can't stand waking up next to in the morning.
