Ellen’s First Oscar Promo Includes Dancing, So It’s Time To Get Excited

Ellen DeGeneres Oscars promo December 2013

Have you been so distracted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's upcoming Golden Globes hosting gig that you forgot Ellen DeGeneres would be hosting the 2014 Oscars? Well, shame on you! How could you forget? It was only one of the best announcements of the year. In case it slipped your mind, allow me to remind you that Ellen is the best. She gets great interviews out of celebrities, she sets up fun skits, and she gives consistently delightful monologues. But perhaps most importantly, she loves to dance.

That's why this first Oscars promo/trailer/ad/commercial/teaser/preview/thingamajig (Can we please decide on one name for these?) is so great. There's dancing in it! To be fair, the people behind Ellen do some more complicated and choreographed moves than she does. But Ellen doesn't need choreography. She just moves how the music tells her to move, and she also lip-syncs, as she's known to do adorably on her show.

This time the song she's lip-syncing to is “The Walker” by Fitz and the Tantrums. It's one of those super-catchy songs that I've definitely heard somewhere, but I can't put my finger on exactly where. But now I can say I've heard it in the Oscar trailer, so that's good. What's also good is that Paul Feig directed this video. You might know him as the director of movies like Bridesmaids or The Heat. I know, they're really obscure, so you've probably never heard of them.

In case the dancing and the catchy music and the Feig and the Ellen weren't enough to get you excited for the awards, also know that this video features 250 men and women in snazzy tuxedos. Nothing's classier or more Hollywood than a nice tuxedo, especially when you're wearing it to dance through a backlot. So put on your fanciest tux and mark your calendars for March 2, 2014, when Ellen will host the 86th Annual Academy Awards.
