Disney Star Dylan Sprouse Has A Restaurant Job, But Not Because He’s Broke, Okay?!

Dylan Sprouse working at NYC restaurantIt's always a tough time to be an up-and-coming actor trying to make a name for yourself, but I never realized how hard it apparently is to be an established actor who already has a famous name, as well. Case in point: former Disney star Dylan Sprouse has just confirmed that he's currently working as a host in a New York City restaurant.

You may remember Dylan and his twin brother Cole Sprouse from such projects as The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody on The Disney Channel, Instagram wars with fans, playing the kid in Big Daddy, us discovering Cole's secret Tumblr, Cole subsequently deleting said secret Tumblr, and most notably (in my brain, anyway), playing Ross' son Ben on Friends. But no matter which order of impressiveness those achievements fall into for you, we can probably agree that these kids made a ton of money. Like, a ton. By the end of the 2000s, they were reported to be ‘the richest teenage twins in the world'. Which is admittedly an incredibly niche category, but still — by 2010 they were making $40,000 per episode combined. That's a lot of money.

So you might think it's odd that Dylan would be working at a restaurant now (or anywhere at all, with that kind of money lying around), but he wants to be clear that it's not a money thing at all. He got on his personal Tumblr a few days ago to explain himself after multiple photos appeared on the internet of him at work.

“So many pictures have gotten out that I’m now working as a host at a restaurant in NY.  To clear up the air (which is admittedly pretty rude), I did not take this job because I “lost all my money”, I am financially secure, and took this job as a way to primarily feed my over bountiful video game addiction. I also too this as a way to try a new experience, working somewhat below the means I’m used to, as well as a way to socialize and get out of the house. I feel most comfortable when I’m working and doing something, to criticize someone of that is pretty odd. I will potentially return to acting someday, but in no way do I think any experience is a step down for me, but rather a new step in another direction.”

That's totally legit reasoning and all, but can you imagine how weird it would be to get a job at a restaurant and be like, “Oh hello Disney star I grew up watching on my television set. You may not look the same as the tiny, adorable human I remember, but I guess we'll be coworkers now and I'll act like that's totes normal.” It was weird enough for me to imagine going to brunch and having Orange Is The New Black cast member Madeline Brewer (she played Tricia Miller) be my server, but now I have to spend fifteen minutes at my desk sleuthing to figure out which restaurant in the city I could go to get greeted by Ben Gellar, too? Or…Zack Martin. Whatever floats your boat.
