Demi Lovato Supported Selena Gomez Going To Rehab In The Sweetest Way Possible

Demi Lovato attending X Factor finale blue hair December 2013Isn't it funny how things in life come full circle? That Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez started their careers together as best friends, then drifted apart, and now are coming back together again? Maybe it's because they're similiar people, or maybe it's because Disney does similar things to its child stars, but they've followed very similar paths.

They both began their careers with a squeaky clean image, both started with television and then moved on to music, both dated high-profile teen stars (Joe Jonas for Demi, and of course Justin Bieber for Selena), both have struggled a bit with being taken seriously as adults, given their success as child stars…and now both have been to rehab.

As we discovered yesterday, that ‘me time' that Selena canceled the Australian leg of her Stars Dance Tour for earlier this year was actually a very secretive two-week trip to a facility in Arizona, where she was treated for something her rep is insisting wasn't substance abuse. But whatever it is, we're very proud of Selena for taking such an important step toward recovery and making her health a priority. It's not an easy choice to make, and no one knows that better than Demi, who tweeted yesterday:

See, I could keep talking for paragraphs and paragraphs, and still Demi can say it better than I can in only 140 characters. It continues to blow my mind how intelligent, compassionate, and mature she is at only twenty-one years old. Honestly I can't imagine a better resource for Selena at this point in her life, and I love that Demi is taking the time to reach out and defend her friend without actually attacking anyone. According to a source, talking about why Selena decided to check into treatment:

“She needed to work on her emotional life. She needed to learn tools on how to deal with Justin and letting go of that relationship. This is the first time she's ever taken the time to deal with issues, to deal with herself, with a therapist.”

Love it. Love it. Did I mention how much I love it? I love it.
