7 Things By Miley

Miley Cyrus has been all over the place promoting Breakout, her first album completely unrelated to Hannah Montana. And since the album comes out today, we've decided to list seven of our fave Miley quotes from the past few weeks. Ready? Here goes…

1. On going back to having a "normal" life: "I think it would be too hard. It's weird because I feel very normal... but then sometimes I want to go to the mall... and I'm thinking I'm totally gonna be fine and be able to shop around, [but] it's not like it is for a normal teenager…It will be really funny when I'm laughing with my friends and they're like 'OK, you're on a totally different planet,' because I'm like 'Oh, I bet that's how school is and this and that...' My friends are like, 'Oh my gosh, it's totally different. It is not all happy and smiley. It's probably much harder than your job, what you do Miley." (Good Morning America)

2. On writing her own songs: "Songwriting is what I really want to do with my life forever. No matter how long what I'm doing here lasts, I want to be a songwriter for the rest of my life. I love it and it's my escape. I just hope this record showcases that --more than anything -- I'm a writer. I wrote my first song when I was probably 7 -- it was called 'Pink.' That shows what kind of song it was about -- it's about the color pink. But you know what, darn it, I wrote it and I've been writing since I was my little sister's age. At this point, though, when I'm writing I like to not listen to music at all because I don't want to ever be like, 'Oh, this is cool,' and start to sound like anyone else. I try to just kind of focus on my music and just continue to write, just kind of block everything out. I don't watch TV at night; I actually try to make sure my mind is focused." (Billboard)

3. On why there's no trace of Hannah Montana in Breakout: "I wanted to show that I am a true artist. And the reason I titled it Breakout was because, as the age demographic grows, because as I grow, they grow. I want to embrace the older audience, and I feel like this is a good breakout way of doing that." (E! News)

4. On Selena Gomez or Demi Lovato being "the next Miley": "I don't think there could be a next Miley. I think they should be the next Selena, the next Demi ... [and] make their own way." (Extra)

5. On her sudden rise to fame: "It was insane. All of a sudden I woke up one day and went to Macy's and saw myself on a T-shirt. I feel empowered when I see my face on a T-shirt. A girl wouldn't be wearing a shirt with me on it just because she liked my show. She must look up to me." (TV Guide)

6. On body image: "I stress about that stuff like everyone else, but at the end of day, I'm a good ol' Southern girl that likes her Cracker Barrel at 9 o'clock at night and if I want it, gosh darn, I'm going to eat it. I'm not going to make myself miserable. And for so many girls, you don't want to be thin because you want the guy to think you're gorgeous or whatever -- you do it all for women, you do it all for a competition. That's so silly, it's such a game. [Why] waste your time with a game you're never going to win? There's always going to be someone that I think is prettier than me, there's always going to be someone that I'm going to think is a better vocalist, or a better writer, better guitarist. There's always going to be that, so why stress myself about the competition the whole time?" (Billboard)

7. On the Vanity Fair scandal: "I think I was just in a stage where I was just trying to get things done, and maybe look for an older audience. I was working with a big magazine just trying to go with what they were saying…People need to remember that I am young and that I do have feelings, and I'll do the same thing for them. Anyone who was 15 years old can't say they haven't made a mistake. So I think it's just normal." (Good Morning America)
