Yikes! If Jessica Simpson's first country concert is any indication, her foray away from pop could get ugly. Usually a headliner, Jess opened for Sara Evans on Saturday at the Country Thunder USA festival in Twin Lakes, Wisc. Taking the stage after country music sweetheart Kellie Pickler, Jess debuted new material, including first single "Come on Over" and "You're My Sunday" (which she dedicated to BF Tony Romo -- a Wisconsin native), and covered country hits like Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again" and Shania Twain's "Who's Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?" The only remnant of her pop career? "With You," which she threw into the otherwise country set list.
While Jess tried to woo the crowd by relating to them ("I don't know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I'm just a girl from Texas," she said. "I'm just like you. I'm doing what I love and dating a boy."), it didn't all go as planned. "She's an embarrassment to country music," one concertgoer told the Kenosha News, while another said, "I just don't hear the country in her; I don't hear the twang. She's not good enough to be here." She was even booed! Aw, poor girl! As if Blonde Ambition wasn't enough of an embarrassment…
