Chris Hemsworth Explains Why You Won’t See Instagram Photos Of Daughter India Rose Anytime Soon

Chris Hemsworth daughter India Rose Hemsworth Elsa Pataky social media Twitter Instagram interview Thor 2Part of what I find so sweet about the Hemsworth brothers is how much they're kindred spirits. In a new interview, Chris Hemsworth tells Prestige Hong Kong about how he didn't get into acting til his older brother Luke did some TV work in Australia. He also talks more about how he and Liam helped each other out with Thor auditions back when it looked like Chris was getting passed over in favor of his little bro. (And then the casting choices reversed and Liam was helping him!) Discussing the instability of a career in Hollywood, Chris said, “It’s far more of a supportive relationship [we have in acting] than backyard football, or surfing, or whatever else we do in our free time.”

But you know where else the three Hemsworths all see eye-to-eye? Social media. We know that Liam is not a fan, which seems completely uncharacteristic for a typical 22-year-old: In 2009, he convinced girlfriend Miley Cyrus to quit the site, though she reactivated her account less than two years later. And now Chris, 29, reveals himself to be similarly social-media-wary:

“I think there’s a danger of being overexposed with that stuff. The mystery of who you are is what keeps people interested in wanting to see you on the screen. Also, it’s easier for them to believe you as that character if they don’t know too much about you. It’s hard not to be overexposed these days with the Internet, and especially when you do a tour for something like The Avengers or Snow White, where you’re contracted to do an incredible amount of press. Besides, I’d rather be hanging out with my family than updating to people I don’t know about what I had for lunch. Also, there are so many fake ones out there, which is pretty frustrating.”

I'm not surprised that Chris would feel this way, especially considering that he toiled in Hollywood for several years before becoming famous. Weirdly enough, several of his early movies, which he made when he might as well have been any anonymous actor trying to break out, all got released after he landed the role of Thor and had already become our fantasy man. So it must've been frustrating for him that once Cabin in the Woods and Red Dawn came out, people already had a fixed view of him in their minds. I could see how he would feel weird about posting photos of his family where millions of followers could squeal over them. (Even though his daughter India Rose Hemsworth is the most precious thing, as you can see in this handy paparazzi pic.)

Another hangup Chris has about his public persona is what a beefcake everyone regards him as—including now, since he's currently shooting Thor: The Dark World. When the interviewer joked about how his top Google search term is “Chris Hemsworth Thor workout,” the actor's response showed that it's certainly no his mind:

“It was nice to do the James Hunt movie [Rush] because it wasn’t about that. It’s funny, you have one scene in the movie [Thor] where you have your shirt off, then you do a press tour and it’s like, ‘So you spend the whole time in the film with your shirt off.' It was all of 10 seconds. So it can overshadow things. It is what it is, and that was what that character called for. But no, there’s no complaint about it. It becomes a challenge because you then have to be smart about what you pick after that; you want to show range. I don’t just want to do action films.”

With all this, I'm surprised that he's such a good sport in paparazzi photos; I haven't yet seen one of him scowling at the camera. Still, we can't begrudge him wanting his privacy, especially since he's generous enough to provide a hilarious impression of India Rose at press junkets. So we still get to feel like we're hanging out with him and his kid without being too creepy.
