Chris Brown Had The Utterly Wrong Reaction To Rihanna’s Tearful Oprah Interview (In Other News, Water Is Wet)

Earlier today, Jenni wrote a great post clarifying the reasons why we hate Chris Brown: not because he made a terrible mistake, but because he refuses to take any real responsibility for that mistake, and insists that anyone who thinks he should is just a sad, jealous hater. (But don't worry, he forgives you!)

Since then, Chris Brown has gone on to prove the “haters” right once again by responding to Rihanna's tearful Oprah interview with a statement that everyone needs to leave him alone. (The response came from “a source close to Chris Brown,” but it seems like it definitely came on his orders.)

“Watching [Rihanna's interview with Oprah] made him realize he made a big mistake and he’s been paying for it ever since. He’s working hard, in the studio, dancing, doing everything he can to rebuild his name and career and I think he been successful in doing all that. Y’all should be talking about his road to recovery and how he’s been a man and made s–t right. He and Ri are cool, more cool than anyone will know. She forgave the [boy] the minute that s–t went down, so what that say about their relationship?”

How could we not forgive Chris Brown when he's been dancing? And working hard to rebuild his career? And not, you know, going to therapy, or volunteering at women's shelters, or doing anything that actually relates to taking responsibility for what he did?

Once again: just because a woman who is in love with her abuser and has a history of violence in her family forgives her abuser as soon as he's done beating her up, does not mean he is not morally culpable. If anything, it shows just how deep the manipulation has gone, because people in their right minds don't instantly forgive someone for putting them in the hospital.

Like I said, we don't hate Chris Brown for his original crime at this point, but for how he's been behaving ever since. He'll never be penalized by the mainstream music industry when there's money to be made off of him, so I'm going to do what I can to call him out on his bullshit, and I'm not going to stop until he stops spewing it. He can “forgive” me all he wants.
