It seems like everyone and their mother has a Snapchat account these days. We're all addicted to sending our friends seconds-long snapshots of our lives that will fade away forever soon enough. Admit it: you've spent way too long scrolling through all of the filters. How many times have you made yourself spew rainbows now? Probably hundreds. It's just so addictive!
Considering the app has 150 million daily users worldwide, it's not much of a surprise that a handful of celebs help to make up that number. Famous faces like Selena Gomez and Lady Gaga treat us to the occasional Snapchat of their daily lives. The entire Kardashian-Jenner clan basically lives on the app. While most of the celebrity pics we see are fairly mundane and innocent, some turn out to be so much more than plain old selfies. Secrets and scandals have been revealed through the medium of a ten-second snap, and frankly, we live for that kind of drama. Here is a selection of the most memorable celebrity Snapchat incidents of all time.
via Kylie Jenner on Snapchat
Back before she had the entire world in a frenzy over the sudden birth of her baby, Kylie Jenner was making headlines for totally different reasons. Back in 2015, the then-17-year-old Jenner raised a lot of eyebrows when she posted a slightly questionable Snapchat. In the brief video, Kylie can be heard claiming that she's "high AF" while she munches on a chicken nugget. A lot of people took the clip literally and claimed that then-boyfriend Tyga had been leading Kylie astray and giving her illegal substances to try. Jenner later clarified the snap, claiming that she'd been misheard. Apparently, the teen had actually whispered "good AF" in reference to the fried chicken she was eating. While fried chicken is admittedly pretty great, we're still not entirely sure that we believe Kylie on this one.
via Kaitlyn Bristowe on Snapchat
Back in 2015, The Bachelorette star Kaitlyn Bristowe accidentally spoiled her entire season in one brief Snapchat. The extent to which she messed up would be kinda impressive if it wasn't so irritating for fans of the show! Just four weeks into the show's eleventh season, Bristowe revealed which eligible single man she'd chosen by posting a snap of him in her bed. Yep - she revealed to us all that she was still dating contestant Shawn Booth, implying that he was the show's eventual winner. While Booth had always been seen as a strong contender, winning the coveted rose in the season's first episode, there was still everything to play for! We know that Snap-ccidents can happen - who hasn't sent a pic to the wrong person before - BUT STILL.
via Kim Kardashian on Snapchat
Kanye West may have done some pretty weird and wonderful things over the years, but at least some of his antics have been heartwarming. A prime example is his extravagant Mother's Day gesture to his wife back in 2016. Kim posted a glorious Snapchat of an actual, full-on orchestra playing for her in her living room. Kanye had hired them as a surprise to make her day extra special. Seriously, that is #relationshipgoals right there. The orchestra played various show tunes for Kim and even threw in "Let It Go" from Frozen to keep a young North West entertained. Apparently, it was North herself who'd dictated the entire setlist! Everybody else can go home: the Kardashian-Wests just won Mother's Day.
Seriously, 2015 was a pretty wild ride for fans of Kylie Jenner's Snapchat account. Alongside her "High AF" incident, Jenner also made waves thanks to her extensive discussion of boob tape on the app. Apparently frustrated by rumors that she'd recently got breast implants, Jenner took to Snapchat to get out her side of the story. She informed fans that her substantially perkier chest was not a result of surgery, but down to a whole load of duct tape holding things in place. To prove her point even further, Kylie then peeled back the sides of her gown to reveal the tape in question. Well, that's certainly one way to prove the gossipers wrong.
In the final year of her dad's Presidency, Malia Obama apparently went a little bit wild. The then-18-year-old was pictured smoking what onlookers called a "suspicious cigarette" at Lollapalooza festival in 2016, and was also photographed next to a bong at a party. Things got even more surprising when Snapchats emerged documenting the teen's trip around Brown University the previous year. The photos apparently showed Malia playing beer pong while most definitely under the legal drinking age. The White House refused to comment on the photos, and Brown's students actually released a written apology to Malia for invading her privacy while she toured their school. Your teenage years are difficult enough as it is. Imagine how much worse it must be undergoing them while also being the President's daughter!
via Bella Thorne on Snapchat
Former Disney Channel star Bella Thorne doesn't exactly have the most understated social media presence. Her topless Instagram shots, apparently racist comments, and often-controversial Tweets have led to her gaining a reputation far beyond her acting and singing endeavors. However, Snapchat has to be the medium that's raised the most questions regarding Thorne's behavior. In April of last year, Thorne decided that the best way to deal with getting her first ever bikini wax was to live-Snapchat the whole thing. That MIGHT be oversharing, Bella. Then, there was the weird video back in September in which she flashed her nipples and denied rumors that she has an addiction to meth. Most recently, Thorne's Snapchat sparked pregnancy rumors after she posted a pic of boyfriend Mod Sun kissing her stomach. She's yet to confirm if this latest gossip is true or not.
via Blac Chyna on Snapchat
The trainwreck that was Blac Chyna and Rob Kardashian's 2017 breakup played out across pretty much every social media platform. Snapchat was no exception. Both Chyna and Rob posted various images and videos intended to harm each other. Rob shared a video on Instagram of Chyna cuddled up to another man, claiming this was evidence of her cheating on him. He added that he'd received the footage a day after dropping $250,000 on jewelry for his estranged partner. Chyna responded by taunting Rob in a series of Snapchats. They showed her unashamedly flaunting said bling to the tune of Drake's pretty pointed song "Cameras." Other posts claimed that Rob had actually been the one who cheated before Chyna eventually begged Kardashian to leave her alone. The two parted on pretty bad terms and are still embroiled in various lawsuits.
via Bella Hadid on Snapchat
Back in 2017, one seemingly simple Snapchat majorly impacted Gigi Hadid's entire career. In February of that year, Hadid's sister Bella posted a video of Gigi in a Chinese restaurant. The clip showed the model posing with a model of the Buddha while squinting. Critics were quick to note the racist connotations of Hadid's actions, blasting her for mocking Asians and their appearance. Hadid's boyfriend Zayn Malik - himself of South-East Asian descent - tried to defend her, claiming that she "loves Asians, trust me ;)". However, the damage was already done. Hadid was forced to pull out of the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai later that year due to the controversy.
via Justin Bieber on Snapchat
Before Justin Bieber reunited with Selena Gomez yet again last year, he was apparently one lonely chap. On Valentine's Day 2017, he posted a pretty sad video to Snapchat about just how alone he felt. While Selena was on a date with her then-boyfriend The Weeknd, Justin was complaining to his followers about his single status. He claimed that while he'd once known love, that was all over now. Complete with sad black-and-white filter, Bieber lamented that "all I ever wanted was a valentine, and now I don't even have a valentine." Poor Justin! Well, it all worked out for him in the end! He managed to win Selena back, even if the majority of her friends and family are apparently not too happy about it.
via Rihanna on Snapchat
If one incident highlights the power of Snapchat in the modern world, this is it. At the 2017 iHeart Music Awards, Rihanna made awards show history by giving her acceptance speech via the app. RiRi couldn't make it on the night but ended up winning no less than three awards. Instead of sending a conventional video message, she chose to use the Snapchat bunny filter. Of course, this made the singer's voice hilariously squeaky and high-pitched and provided ample entertainment. While Ri is still the only artist to give a speech in this way, we're hoping it becomes a trend. Can you imagine the fun you could have with all the different filters? It'd make a change from the usual same-old, same-old of the awards show circuit!
via Demi Lovato on Snapchat
Demi Lovato's Snapchat game is generally pretty strong. She posts tons of gorgeous selfies, both with and without adorable filters. She's not afraid to show off how body-confident she is, an amazing move from a star who's been vocal about past body image issues! Out of all of Demi's totally fire Snapchats, one particular series from last October stand out. Lovato treated us all to a mini photo shoot of herself in a 1950s pin-up style. She rocked the red lip/statement earrings/burlesque style look, and gave us all serious Snap envy. It's as yet unclear what the pin-up shoot was for, but we're super excited to see the end result!
The Kardashian-Jenner sisters are no stranger to the controversy surrounding cornrows. Kylie provoked widespread anger when she sported the braids back in 2016. However, it's now Kim who's making headlines for the same reason. At the end of January, Kim posted a Snapchat of herself sporting the now-infamous braids. While this is cultural appropriation as it is, Kardashian made things worse by crediting the hairstyle to white model Bo Derek, totally ignoring its roots in African-American culture. Instead of apologizing or even attempting to explain herself, Kim simply posted another photo claiming that she gave "zero f*cks" about the criticism. We're yet to find out if she has anything else to say about the matter.
via Khloe Kardashian on Snapchat
Before Khloe Kardashian officially announced that she and Tristan Thompson are expecting a baby, she dropped some major hints via Snapchat. All the way back in June, she posted a Snap of the two of them with the captions "mom and dad" and "06.25.17." Most fans were dismissive of this at first, failing to believe that Khloe could possibly be pregnant. However, it turned out that this really was a super-early announcement from the Kardashian sister. It's now thought that the 25th of June was the date that Khloe discovered she was pregnant. She shared the Snap a mere day later! Clearly, she couldn't keep the news to herself... But we all doubted that it was true. Fooled us!
via Tyga on Snapchat
The Kylie Jenner pregnancy saga has had plenty of twists and turns over the course of nine months. One of the most memorable has to be her ex, Tyga's reaction when he found out the news. The rapper posted a quickly-deleted Snap that appeared to claim that he was the father of Kylie's baby. While all signs point to Jenner's current boyfriend, Travis Scott, being her baby daddy, people started to wonder whether Tyga was on to something. Since she had the baby on February 1, that would mean she likely got pregnant sometime in May. Tyga and Kylie only broke up shortly before then.
via DJ Khaled on Snapchat
While this story sounds too hilariously strange to be true, trust me - it 100% happened. DJ Khaled is a frequent Snapchatter, documenting pretty much everything that happens to him on the app. So, when he got lost at sea on his jet-ski, of course he Snapped about it. The saga was nail-biting and seemed pretty scary, in fairness. Khaled went out on the sea in pitch-black darkness - a pretty bad idea, let's face it - and tried to navigate using a head-torch. Unfortunately, he quickly found himself totally lost. Fans became worried about Khaled's welfare when he started to Snap poignant quotes and then went quiet. However, it turned out he hadn't drowned - he'd been rescued, a part which he apparently forgot to document. Khaled certainly learned his lesson. Don't jet-ski at night, kids, even if it makes for entertaining Snapchats!
Who can forget this infamous Snapchat-based drama that dropped in the summer of 2016? It has to be the pinnacle of the Taylor Swift/Kanye West feud, and it blew up all thanks to Kim Kardashian's Snapchat. Just in case you've forgotten what went down, here's a brief summary. Kanye released the song "Famous," a track that referred to Swift as a "b*tch" and claimed she and Yeezy "might still have sex." It also tried to claim that West is the one who made Swift famous in the first place. T-Swizzle didn't take it very well and slammed West for including the offending lyrics without consulting her. In response, Kim 'proved' that Swift DID give her permission via a Snapchat video of the singer giving West her blessing over the phone. It's still unclear who was actually the victim here, but either way, the whole affair was riveting stuff.
