CeeLo Green’s Show Has Been Canceled Following Those Disturbing Tweets About Rape

CeeLo Green no

CeeLo Green no longer has a TV show on TBS. You might not have been aware that he had one in the first place, but now you know that it existed once and doesn't anymore. His reality show The Good Life has not been renewed for another season. This news comes after CeeLo's controversial and very disturbing Twitter rant about what constitutes sexual assault.

On Friday, CeeLo pleaded no contest to a charge of drugging a woman's drink with MDMA without her knowledge in 2012. The woman said she woke up naked in CeeLo's bed the next day with no memory of how she got there. CeeLo maintained that they had consensual sex. Due to “lack of evidence,” sexual charges weren't filed, but CeeLo agreed to three years of probation, 360 hours of community service, and 52 AA meetings for charges of “furnishing a controlled substance.” He then decided to share his horrifying opinions on Twitter this weekend, saying it's not rape if the woman remembers it:

“People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!”

and

“If someone is passed out they’re not even WITH you consciously. so WITH Implies consent.”

CeeLo deleted the tweets and his account afterward, then reactivated it and posted an apology, saying in part:

“I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it..”

Um, actually no, I don't think I will forgive you. And TBS might not either. The network says they canceled the show due to “poor ratings,” but considering the news comes shortly after these tweets blew up online, as well as after the women's rights group Ultraviolet petitioned for the show's cancellation, I'm suspicious that it's more than that. Whether it really was just for ratings, or whether CeeLo's tweets had an effect on it, this cancellation is good news. It's disheartening to watch celebrities who've done and said despicable things continue with flourishing careers. (Cough, Chris Brown, cough.)
