Ellar Coltrane as Mason in BoyhoodHere it is, everyone. The trailer for the movie Boyhoodwhich has been making everybody in the film industry jizz in their pants ever since it premiered at Sundance this year.

If you're anything like me, one of your main goals at all times is to accrue information that makes you look intelligent at cocktail parties. Not that I've ever been invited to one, per se, but it's always good to plan ahead. So with that in mind, I try to stick my nose into insider film stuff every so often to learn about what I should be talking about for the next few weeks if I don't want to look like a total nicompoop. And one of those things is this movie, because it's doing something that's really never been done before.

…namely, filming over a twelve year period. In 2002, the film's director, Richard Linklater, cast a six-year old boy named Ellar Coltrane beside veteran actors Ethan Hawke and Patricia Arquette. Twelve years later, in October 2013, the movie finally wrapped, with over a decade of footage of documenting a boy quite literally growing to adulthood. It's like one of those time-lapse videos you watch on the internet every day, except you can be cool and film-nerdy for watching this one.

Just get yourself a long-stemmed cigarillo, a scruffyish beard (ladies too!!!) and a mysterious sort of hat and you'll fit in at any industry party, just as long as you're breathing out the words ‘Boyhood' and ‘Cannes' with every mysterious puff of smoke. You're welcome for the social tips.
