Since I'm the first to post a blog, I'll give you a quick rundown -- basically, we're hitting up a bunch of US and European cities, signing books, posters, and all sorts of Percy swag at Borders Bookstores and Hot Topic stores. Let us know what you think of the book and the movie (which comes out February 12 -- I know, shameless plug), and give your own city a shout out in the comments below. Who knows? Maybe the studio will send us to your hometown with enough support from you guys.
Ok, enough set up -- let's talk about the first stop on the tour...
San Francisco. The city's culture and the architecture and just the environment is really stunning. It's cinematic -- there's something about it that makes me want to shoot a movie. The fog, the clean lines of the buildings -- it's like a little bit old mixed with the new. I can see why directors like David Fincher and Percy's own Chris Columbus are inspired by it here. San Francisco feels like home to me.
Last night, we saw the first cut of Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief. It's a new experience seeing myself on-screen for two hours with a bunch of people in the room, but I gotta say, I'm really proud of this film. We all worked so hard on it and it's a really fun ride from beginning to end. You gotta check it out for yourself. And how cool is it to see Uma Thurman as Medusa with a head full of snakes instead of hair!? Really cool. And not to mention, the screening room was at ILM, George Lucas's special effects headquarters, so the actual Darth Vader suit was in the lobby. For a film geek like me, that was a really big bonus. That's movie history right there!
Tonight was our first book and poster signing at Borders; an amazing group of people showed up. It was shocking to see so many fans -- they told us that over 500 people had been waiting in line for hours. A big thank you to everyone who spent the time waiting to chat with us. This is the part of the press tour that makes it worthwhile.
I've always had a preconceived idea that I'm going to live here in San Francisco one day, and this trip really helped seal the deal. I love this place!
Signing off from San Fran,
Logan Lerman
