Beyonce Admits She Was Lip-Synching, Just Makes Me Love Her More

2013 Presidential Inauguration of U.S. President Barack ObamaWanna know why Beyonce is the greatest? Because you can't cause a controversy with this woman. Secretly assume that she used a pregnancy surrogate for the birth of her daughter Blue Ivy? She'll release a documentary in which numerous images appear of her at various stages of her pregnancy. Accuse her of lip-synching the national anthem at Barack Obama‘s presidential inauguration? She'll confirm it.

Wait what? Beyonce…confirmed that she lip-synched? lip-sank? lip-sunk? Whatever, not the point. YES. Yes she did. At a press conference in New Orleans today in advance of her Superbowl performance on Sunday, Beyonce accepted questions from reporters, and had absolutely no problem addressing the rumors that she didn't sing live. She admitted it! And even better, she had a really great reason for doing so.

“I am a perfectionist and one thing about me I practice until my feet bleed and I did not have time to rehearse with the orchestra [at the Inauguration]. It was a very important, emotional show for me. Due to the weather, due to the delay, due to no proper soundcheck, I didn't feel comfortable [performing live]. It's very common in the music industry to sing with a prerecorded track and I am very proud of my performance.”

I mean yeah. That's super legit. Any feelings of being let down when the rumors started that it was a prerecorded track that I had were immediately washed away by the fact that she was so forthcoming about it.There are a lot of other artists out there who I can imagine covering up the fact that they hadn't been singing live by getting defensive or lashing out at reporters. But Beyonce treats it like the natural thing that it is without getting embarrassed or ashamed by it, and it makes me feel much better about the whole thing.

As for the rest of the press conference, she sang ‘The Star-Spangled Banner' as a sneak peek for the halftime show, and assured us that she will definitely be singing live on Sunday. In her own words, “This is what I was born to do.” The only rumor she didn't confirm was whether or not Destiny's Child would be performing together, but you can hold out hope that it's happening, because she didn't deny it either.

And in case you can't wait until Sunday to get more of a Bey fix, check out rehearsal photos here, and a 45-second rehearsal video here.
