Crushable’s Ultimate Lazy Day Playlist

Bruno Mars lazy song

I'm pleased to inform you that today is National No Housework Day. I KNOW! Doesn't it just give you the burning desire to not dust something? I could be wrong, but I think that if anyone sees you folding laundry or adjusting couch cushions or (heaven forbid) vacuuming today, you'll be arrested on the spot. And that's one rule I'm very happy to follow.

Since you're a citizen of the 21st century and you clicked on a post with “playlist” in the title, I'll bet you're the type of person who likes to have a soundtrack to everyday activities like working out or catching up on your correspondence or just being a lazybones who doesn't feel like lifting a finger. So obviously today you'll be needing some songs to listen to while avoiding housework at all costs. And lucky for you, we've got some. We rounded up a bunch of songs all about being lazy and unproductive and just straight up chillin'. So put away the laundry detergent, put your feet up, and press play.

1. “The Lazy Song” by Bruno Mars

I think this is the official anthem for lazy people everywhere, right? I guess it's also an anthem for people who like to wear monkey masks around the house. That's personally not what I like to wear when I'm hanging out doing nothing, but whatever floats your boat, I guess.

2. “Lazy Sunday” by The Lonely Island

Not gonna lie, this is totally my jam. The idea of waking up in the late afternoon, grabbing some cupcakes and seeing Chronicles of Narnia is amazing to me. Side note: I can no longer say “chronicles” without putting a “what” in the middle. And I'm okay with that.

3. “Bang the Drum All Day” by Todd Rundgren

Admit it, every time you don't feel like going to work you sing this song to yourself. Whether or not you actually have a drum to bang is beside the point. If it means not working, you'll buy one.

4. “Morning Song” by Jewel

This song is from Jewel's early years, when she was arguably her most bohemian. If you're spending your No Housework Day with your significant other, you can't get more lazily romantic than this.

5. “School's Out” by Alice Cooper

Even if you're not a student, the words “school's out” are just just too liberating not to listen to when you want to be lazy. Sure, technically school's out and now you're an adult with a job and responsibilities, but we won't talk about those details.

6. “Sitting Doing Nothing” by Elton John

Elton John was reading my mind before I was even born. Sitting doing nothing is my most favoritest thing.

7. “Fabulously Lazy” by Franz Ferdinand

For those days when being lazy just isn't enough, play this song and do it FABULOUSLY.

8. “I'm Only Sleeping” by The Beatles

Isn't it kind of an unwritten rule that every playlist ever has to have a Beatles song on it? Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is.

9. “Lazy Days” by Enya

If you're not asleep and dreaming peacefully by the end of this song, you have more strength than I zzzzzzzzzzz.

10. “Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay” by Otis Redding

If you happen to have a bay with a dock nearby, this is the perfect soundtrack for sitting on it.

11. “A Man Needs a Maid” by Neil Young

I mean, if you decide to continue that “no housework” rule beyond today, this song will actually apply to you.

12. “Sleeping In” by the Postal Service

Sometimes you just feel like being a lazy hipster, you know?

13. “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys

I always associate this song with the Muppets, so that's the version I'm including here. Kermit totally kills it.

14. “Because I Got High” by Afroman

If there are… ahem… herbal reasons for your laziness, here's your jam. La da da da da da da.

15. “This Afternoon” by Nickelback

And if you're hungover (and/or a Nickelback fan, no judgment), here's your jam.

16. “Sleep All Day” by Jason Mraz

Jason Mraz was only the soundtrack of my high school experience, so I couldn't really leave him off this list.

17. “The Snuggie Macarena” by … People in Snuggies

I am the proud owner of a Snuggie, and I'm not ashamed to admit I use it every day. It might just be the greatest invention in history. So excuse me while I spend my No Housework Day listening to this song on repeat.
