5 Reasons Why Roger Sterling Will Be Awesome In His Top-Secret Role On Arrested Development

John Slattery Arrested Development Roger Sterling mystery character guest roleSilver fox John Slattery — better known as Roger Sterling on Mad Men — will appear on the new season of Arrested Development! See, yesterday producer (and narrator) Ron Howard told MTV that creator Mitch Hurwitz isn't trying to recreate the success of the short-lived sitcom: “[P]art of the fun that Mitch has been mining and exploiting is, what's new to discover about these people? What's delightfully unchanged?” To that end, they're bringing on a number of new guest stars in addition to the familiar cast and supporting players.

Howard wouldn't specify what roles these actors will play, which means we know nothing about how Slattery will interact with the Bluths. I think that TVLine's prediction that he'd be Lindsay's (Portia di Rossi) new side piece is pretty accurate, but regardless, he'll be hilarious. See, Slattery has been in top form as Roger Sterling on Mad Men this past season; several outrageous moments from his plotlines have us convinced he'll be able to go toe-to-toe with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, David Cross, and co. Allow me to make my point with illustrations:

Can't you just imagine someone saying this to Michael Bluth?

Just one more reason to bring back Franklin Delano Bluth!

Roger Sterling's LSD trip was one of the greatest moments of the season… and it brings to mind George Sr.'s gas-induced tea parties in the attic.

But we can't just credit Mad Men—or had you forgotten his brief bit on 30 Rock in 2010 as politician Steven Austin?

And finally, because Slattery played Tony Stark's dad in Iron Man 2. ‘Nuff said.
