Ariana Grande hosted SNL over the weekend, and guys, she was kind of hilarious. That's partly because she got to show off her talent for celebrity impressions. We've already seen her embody some of music's biggest divas on The Tonight Show, and that ability definitely came in handy during a sketch in which she plays an intern who has to save Tidal by impersonating everyone from Britney Spears to Shakira to Whitney Houston. It was pretty much the same sketch as the one Bruno Mars did for Pandora a few years back.
That sketch was great, and you should totally watch it and bask in the awesomeness, but what I really want to talk about is Ariana's impression, in a Celebrity Family Feud sketch, of Jennifer Lawrence. I didn't think impersonating Jennifer Lawrence was possible, much like I didn't think impersonating Jennifer Aniston was possible. But nowVanessa Bayerand Ariana have proven me wrong. Ariana has the voice down perfectly. If you close your eyes, you might think you're actually listening to J.Law. I honestly didn't know what to expect, and I got amazingness.
Kenan Thompson's comebacks as Steve Harvey definitely make things funnier in their accuracy. For example, “You know, you say you're a regular person more than any regular person I know,” and “How annoyingly relatable.” But none of it would mean anything without Ariana's spot-on (man) voice, which she apparently needs to give to Quentin Tarantino. Turns out she can get up to some pretty entertaining stuff when she's not licking donuts. (No, I won't forget about it, but I also won't let it affect my ability to enjoy a good celebrity impression. No amount of donut-licking could ever do that.)
