Anne Hathaway and Seth Meyers Prove Every Talk Show Interview Should Have a Rom-Com Ending

Anne Hathaway Seth Meyers September 2015

If I was only allowed to watch one late night host for the rest of my life, it would probably be Seth Meyers. He strikes a great balance between witty commentary, entertaining celebrity interviews, and silly bits. And overall, his show just feels chill, like he's not trying too hard. Last night's skit with Anne Hathaway is a great example of why I find him such a delightful host. It helps that they're doing a parody of romantic comedies, which is something I always enjoy. It's just the most simultaneously lovable and hateable genre, and I can't get enough.

It all starts after Seth's interview with Anne. He had such a lovely time with her, but there's something he didn't get a chance to ask her, and it's tearing him up. His buddies on the show give him a pep talk and encourage him to “grow some fucking balls” and run after her. Cue a laundry list of “running to the airport” cliches, from mistaking someone else for your beloved from behind to getting caught in a rainstorm to grabbing a makeshift bouquet of flowers. But, you know, with a funny Late Night twist.

When Seth finally catches up to Anne, she's waiting for the elevator wearing a perfect Holly Golightly hairstyle and a trench coat. A few stolen rom-com lines later, he finally asks her his very important question. And then another very important question. How she answers him is for you to find out when you watch the video. If you ask me, I think every talk show interview could use a bit of rom-com flavor. Maybe Conan O'Brien could start greeting all his guests by accidentally bumping into them backstage, sending all their belongings flying through the air before he helps them pick everything up.
