Amanda Bynes’ Mom Finally Issues A Statement, Tells Everybody To STFU

By  |

Amanda Bynes attending event May 2009I really have to hand it to the family of Amanda Bynes. They've had plenty of chances to capitalize on the drama happening with their daughter right now and all summer, but they're electing to keep to themselves and give her the best possible shot at recovery.

I know it might sound crazy to be so impressed by parents being…well…parental, but let's not forget that we live in a world in which Michael Lohan takes it upon himself to issue statements insulting one of his daughters for getting plastic surgery to look like another one, and Kris Jenner‘s previously unheard-of younger sister comes out of the woodwork to make comments on her niece's marriage. When your family members are famous enough that information about them is worth actual money, the opportunities for exploitation are endless.

Which is why I think it's so great that Amanda's mom Lynn has maintained her silence for this long. And even in the statement she's issuing now, she remains very private, scolding the media for jumping to unfounded conclusions about something as private as Amanda's health but providing no additional fuel for any of the rumors. Here's what she said to People Magazine:

“I would really like everyone out there to know that almost 99% of the things written about my daughter in various media outlets are false or misleading. Unless it's a statement issued by our family attorney, Tamar Arminak, please take everything you read about Amanda with a grain of salt.”

She doesn't call out individual stories, which I think is wise because it might send outlets into a tailspin trying to figure out what is true and what isn't. She just basically reminds us that we have absolutely no idea what we're talking about. The only thing confirmed at this time is that Amanda has been hospitalized since July 22nd, and was recently moved from UCLA Medical Center to a more long-term facility in Malibu.

“Please know that neither myself or other family members have ever released any information regarding her treatment or diagnosis. We truly believe in keeping our daughter's situation private for now. We appreciate everyone's heartfelt support and we hope that she can get some privacy and the respect she deserves during this trying time. Both my husband and I love Amanda very much and we know that she will get through this situation.”

Yeah I mean, it really is none of our business. I‘m as guilty as the rest of the internet for printing information that I read on TMZ, but ultimately this is a woman's health that we're talking about, and it's not appropriate for us to speculate one way or the other. We hope Amanda gets the help she needs, and we're really glad that her parents are proving so supportive during this difficult period.
