Alyson Hannigan Talks About Crying During HIMYM’s Finale, Fails To Convince Me The Mother Isn’t Dead

Alyson Hannigan discussing HIMYM finale on Jimmy Kimmel March 2014If Alyson Hannigan was hoping that her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night would get me off the scent of my favorite How I Met Your Mother conspiracy theory, then she was dead wrong.

Dead wrong! DEAD! You get it? It's funny because the theory is that The Mother has been dead all along, and that's why Ted started telling his kids (and a national audience) this story in the first place. You might be skeptical, but there are a lot of hints and clues that suggest the fan who thought of it might be on to something, and even an interview with Cristin Milioti — who plays The Mother herself — failed to convince me I was wrong. Because for as many times as she called it ‘crazy', she never actually called it wrong. Innnnteresting.

And while the theory didn't come up during Alyson and Jimmy's conversation last night, the absurd amount of crying that she did during the table read of the finale definitely did.

“I killed a lot  of trees with my crying. The last table read was — you know, we all do love each other so much, and I would say 99% of the room was crying, and that's executives and everything. And we were laughing and crying, I mean it's not a sad show, but it's very lovely.”

It may not be a sad show, but it sounds like it's a sad episode, right? I'm so suspicious! Jimmy tried to get to the bottom of it, asking Alyson to name who was crying and who wasn't, but like she said, it was pretty much everybody, she was just the worst offender, as this tweet from earlier this year proves.

But even though she refuses to tell Jimmy what the ending is (obviously), or even if it's a surprise, she does seem to think that viewers will be satisfied.

“I think that the writers really wrapped the show up the way the fans would want it to be wrapped up, and they're gonna answer all the million questions that everybody has, and more.”

Okay that's cool and all, but can I ask my question now? I just don't know if I can wait until the series finale — which airs next Monday, March 31st at 8:00, in case you were wondering.
