Video: Admiral General Aladeen Responds To His Oscars Snub

Admiral General Shabazz Aladeen The Dictator Oscars banned responseGood for Sacha Baron Cohen! After the disappointing news that he will probably be banned from the Oscars ceremony on Sunday if he shows up dressed as his The Dictator character Admiral General Shabazz Aladeen, he did the only thing he could: He posted a video response in-character.

But first, “Aladeen” gave an exclusive interview to the Today show over the phone, discussing his outrage at the Academy's unwillingness to let him walk the red carpet. The interview was of course hilariously awkward — Cohen's specialty brand of humor — as he said things like, “Normally I would be impressed by an act of cowardice by a faceless regime, but this is personal” and “How is your eunuch, Al Roker?” Not surprisingly, anchor Ann Curry got uncomfortable and ended things early.

The Republic of Wadiya has since posted another message from Aladeen to YouTube, where he called out the Academy for not including any Wadiyan films (such as You've Got Mailbomb) among the nominees. Then he issued an ultimatum: They have until noon on Sunday to release his tickets, or “you will face unimaginable consequences.”

Unfortunately, a stunt like this is most likely to cement the Academy's decision and keep Cohen from enjoying the awards. But at least he got the last laugh.
