This Adele Dazeem Playbill Bio May Be Fake, But That Doesn’t Mean It’s Not Hilarious

It’s been three days since John Travolta totally butchered Idina Menzel’s name at the Oscars, and I’m still laughing about it. Seriously, I have not stopped laughing for almost 72 hours. It’s been pretty difficult to have a conversation with anyone, but at least I’m getting a great ab workout. I just love that Adele Dazeem has brought us all together like this. It’s like an inside joke that we’re all in on. It briefly seemed that Broadway was in on it as well, because a photo of a hilarious Playbill insert made the rounds yesterday that only exacerbated my already intense laughter.

As you can see, the insert declares that the role of Elizabeth in the musical If/Then — which Idina Menzel is starring in beginning this week — will actually be played by Adele Dazeem. It gives a biography based on Idina’s actual career, but changing names and titles as they would probably be pronounced by John Travolta. Don’t you remember her role as Moritz in Nert? Of course you do. It seemed like a fun way for the show to joke about the mistake. But alas, it looks like it was all a hoax.

Buzzfeed spoke to a rep for the show, who said it’s not a real insert. In fact, they don’t even start the show until tonight.. As sad as I am to learn that this is fake, I still love it. And don’t worry, the show isn’t ignoring Adele Dazeem completely. They tweeted this ad for the show a couple of days ago:

Get it? We know her name. John Travolta doesn’t know her name. He thinks her name is Adele Dazeem. Seriously, I think I could hear fifteen Adele Dazeem jokes every day for the next ten years and never get tired of it. Long live Adele Dazeem!
