It's so easy to forget that famous actors can be multi-talented. We see them portraying different roles on the big screen (or on our TV screens), which often causes us to assume that acting is the only thing that they're really good at. However, a quick YouTube search of these stars will tell you that these guys are actually forces to be reckoned with, because aside from being expert actors, they've also got stellar singing voices.
From YouTube covers to live performances, these actors' vocal skills will make you wish that they'd put out a new album. See which ones you had no idea could actually sing below. (Hint: click on their name to hear a sample of their incredible talents.)
You might remember that she collaborated with Cobra Starship on the popular hit “Good Girls Go Bad” in 2009, but those few bars did little to show off her real vocal skills. She actually started working in the music industry in 2007 when she released "Inside the Black" for the soundtrack to Drive-Thru. She also got a record deal with Universal Republic and was set to release an album in 2009, but it got shelved and she only got to release two singles.
She has worked and briefly toured with a band called Check in the Dark. And in 2014, she released her debut album called Heartstrings.
Jordin Sparks was basically all of us when she found out that Kerry had serious pipes. At first, Kerry was a bit shy about singing in front of everyone, but when Jordin made her join in for a duet, it was just magical. She never pursued music or sang professionally (which we find really surprising). But if she were to put out new music, we get the feeling that her songs would top the charts.
Her sultry performance of “All That Jazz” in Glee was definitely impressive. But it wasn’t until we saw her perform Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2U” that we realized just how talented she is. Here’s hoping that she’ll release some more covers – or maybe even make her own music someday... We can dream, right?
These ladies have been singing since they starred on Sister, Sister and they've even showcased their talent on the show. To this day, they continue to prove that their vocals are flawless by posting the occasional cover on YouTube or on social media. In fact, just last year, Tamera sang a bit of "Yes, Jesus Loves Me" on her talk show The Real and she sounded amazing. But you know what we love even more? When she and her sister get to sing together!
It looks like singing definitely runs in the Mowry family, because Tia and Tamera's little brother, Tahj, is also a talented vocalist. He has released a few covers on YouTube, including Michael Jackson's "Human Nature" and Adele's "Rolling In The Deep." He also released an EP called Future Funk in 2015, along with a single called "Flirt." And as of now, he's working on new music.
Jennifer once said that she seriously hates singing in public. But lucky for us, we got to hear her singing voice in one of the songs for the Mockingjay soundtrack. She sang in “The Hanging Tree,” which actually debuted at number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100. That must be a sign that J. Law is also meant to be a singer.
The Chuck star definitely surprised us when we heard him sing for the first time. We heard his smooth vocals when he collaborated with Katharine McPhee on her single "Terrified” in 2010. Then he sang with Mandy Moore for the Tangled song, “I See the Light,” and it even got nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song! Zach and Mandy performed it live at the 83rd Academy Awards and it was basically the highlight of the ceremony.
She blew us all away with her impressive pipes when she played the Baker's wife in the musical Into the Woods. So, of course, that made us curious to see if she had done more singing or pursued a music career at one point in her life. We found that she hasn’t released any music of her own, but a quick YouTube search told us that she has been singing for quite a while. Guys, she is so good.
Before he was Iron Man, he released a jazz/folk album back in 2004. It got mixed reviews from critics and debuted at 121 on the US Billboard Hot 200. But his single, "Man Like Me," did peak at 39 on the US Adult Contemporary Billboard Chart. His vocals were pretty impressive, and he even got to show off his piano skills for some of the tracks.
Guys, did you know that Sarah once played Annie on Broadway? She was just 14 years old and she'd already developed a voice of gold. Sarah hasn't done much singing since her childhood days on Broadway, but in 2016, she did bless our souls with a new cover of "Tomorrow" during the Broadway for Hillary Fundraiser. Oh, how we wish she'd release some new music.
Little did we know that while Tom was working on the Harry Potter films, he was also working on his music. He has released four EPs (two in 2008, one in 2009, one in 2011) and three singles. But it seems like he's had more than enough practice during his childhood days because he used to be a member of over four school choirs and he was once offered a position in the Guildford Cathedral Choir. Talk about impressive!
When she was just 12, she released her very first album exclusively in Japan and instantly became a huge pop star there. But her following two albums didn’t do so well, so she went on hiatus for three years and focused on acting. When she returned to music, she had a bit more success and some of her singles made the charts (with "BareNaked" being her biggest single to date). She has also done some live performances, proving that she’s definitely got killer vocals.
In 2008, the actress released her debut album Anywhere I Lay My Head, which peaked at number 126 on the Billboard 200. And in 2015, she actually formed a band called The Singles, which included Este Haim from HAIM, Holly Miranda, Julia Haltigan, and Kendra Morris. They released one single called "Candy,” but then the group ran into some legal issues when another Los Angeles-based rock band of the same name demanded that they stop calling themselves "The Singles." We’re not so sure if they have any plans to continue as a group, but on the bright side, Scarlett has continued to perform and pursue music.
Kate recorded a song called "What If" for the animated movie Christmas Carol: The Movie, and when we heard it for the first time we were stunned. She has such a beautiful singing voice, and it still shocks us that she didn't release any music up until that point. The song did extremely well, peaking at number one in places like Belgium, Austria, and Ireland. The money she earned from that one song was donated to children’s charities, but we're sad to say that she hasn’t released a song since.
Most of us know her as the ditzy cool girl from Modern Family, but actually, this girl can seriously sing. She has never released any of her own songs, but she has done a few covers on YouTube and most of them have garnered millions of views. (Okay, fine, we'll admit that a good chunk of those views are actually ours.)
We were speechless when we heard Anne sing "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables. Her voice was raw, emotional, and so beautiful. But that’s not the only time she gifted us with her flawless vocals. In 2011, she sang an original song for her Devil Wears Prada co-star Meryl Streep at the annual Kennedy Center Honors, and it was freaking brilliant.
Remeber his role as Benny in the 2005 musical film, Rent? Well, he actually started playing that role in the Broadway musical since 1996. He also studied musical theater in college, which means he's been singing for a quite a while now. But aside from working on Broadway, he and his ex-wife, Idina Menzel, have done a few duets together - and we're kind of obsessed with them.
Her singing in Les Miserables didn’t necessarily blow us away, TBH. Her soprano voice actually felt a bit strained in our opinion. But if you were to listen to literally any other song that she did outside of the film, you’d see that she actually is really good. She has released music for films including Mama Mia! The Movie, Dear John, and Red Riding Hood.
His singing in Into the Woods made us all wish that he was our prince charming. He sang "Agony" with Billy Magnussen and we simply adored his duet with Emily Blunt for "Any Moment." He also did a song in 2010 called "Someday Came Today" for the movie Small Town Saturday Night. Not just good looks but a beautiful voice, too? He's our weakness.
She’s actually the lead singer of a metal band called Wicked Wisdom, believe it or not, which she formed in 2002. The band includes Pocket Honore, Cameron "Wirm" Graves, and Rio. They've released two albums so far, and their self-titled second album peaked at number 44 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. The group has also toured with the metal band Sevendust.
To be honest, most fans are probably aware of the fact that Zooey also has a music career. She once formed a cabaret act called If All the Stars Were Pretty Babies and she sings in a band called “She & Him.” Together, the duo released over six albums including Volume One, which debuted at 81 on the Billboard charts and received critical acclaim. They've also done quite a few live performances, and one of their best by far was their cover of "I Put a Spell on You."
If you've seen 500 Days of Summer, then you've already gotten a taste of JGL's singing. But in addition to that, he has released two albums through his collaborative production company, HitRecod, and over sixteen (yes, sixteen) singles. We got to see him collaborate with the amazing Zooey Deschanel and Anne Hathaway, but the collaboration we're most impressed with is his duet with Lady Gaga.
This just might be the reason why people keep mistaking him for Jesse McCartney because he's also a singer! In 2013, New Heights posted on Facebook that they collaborated with Colton for a new cover and fans understandably freaked out. They sang "19 You + Me" and... Well, let's just say that we kept it on a constant loop for a few days. We're keeping our fingers crossed that Colton will surprise us all with an EP or album someday.
We had no idea that the actress was a trained opera singer. She starred as Christine in the film Phantom of the Opera, and as a result, she got multiple offers for a record deal. However, she turned down those offers because she wanted to do contemporary music instead of classical. She released her first album, Inside Out, in 2007 and it peaked at 199 on the Billboard charts. She once mentioned that her influences included Sarah McLachlan, Whitney Houston, Celine Dion.
