A Morning With Bethenny Frankel

bethennyfrankel_realhousewivesofnycseason1Most mornings I catch up on my Google Reader with a cup of coffee the size of my head. But not today! This morning, I spent a few hours hanging out at South Street Seaport in New York City at an appearance by the one and only Bethenny Frankel of Real Housewives of New York City. Bethenny was doing an appearance for a new product called Deli Flats by Pepperidge Farm. They're 100-calorie rolls you can use to make sandwiches. Bethenny created three separate sandwich recipes for the rolls, which in the spirit of her book, Naturally Thin are all under 200 calories. I got to try one: the pesto turkey deli sandwich and I liked it!

Anyway, I got to talk to Bethenny one-on-one for a few minutes and of course, I asked about her new show, which was just announced by Bravo. Bethenny insists she didn't know the news was official until Simon VanKempen, who “has the whole Internet in his head” told her about the news.  Of the rumors that she's already been replaced, Bethenny says she's on the show for the whole third season (Bravo's cameras were at this event in particular). I noticed that Bethenny had contacted GossipCop about this particular rumor and asked her if she regularly monitored news about herself. She said she did, but mostly “other people” told her the news.

When I asked how she felt about her own show, she siad “I'm thrilled, I'm excited, I'm nervous. It wasn't unexpected, but it's still unknown.” I asked Bethenny if she envisioned it being similar to Kathy Griffin‘s My Life On The D-List, which I think is a similar premise to Bethenny's show and she said “I would only pray to have a show as good as Kathy Griffin's.” and that she liked Kathy's show because “there's no one slapping each other in the face.”

Speaking of slapping each other in the face, I couldn't resist asking what Kim Zolciak was like in person, since the two housewives were on stage a few weeks ago at VH1's Divas Live. “She's exactly as she appears on camera.,” Bethenny said. “She'll pour wine in every vestibule she can!” Bethenny did bring up that while she wrote “scathing” (by her admission) blog recaps on Real Housewives of Atlanta every week for E! Online, she was still nice to the women when she saw them in person. However, the other women don't like her too much for things she writes about them: “It's not that I hate them, it's just what I see on TV. Don't hate the player, hate the game.”

Bethenny has another book coming out of her SkinnyGirl empire called The Skinnygirl Dishwhich she explained to me was a book about shopping your kitchen, not unlike shopping your closet.

Besides getting to meet Bethenny and her spectacular jewelry, I also got to watch them shoot a scene from Real Housewives of New York City. They were on hand to shoot this appearance and Surprise, surprise: fellow housewife Alex McCord showed up to get a free sandwich! Once Alex got there, the girls proceeded to talk for about 20 minutes. And no, we couldn't hear anything they were saying. There was insanely loud construction going on right by where we were, so lucky for them, I couldn't hear a word. No spoilers!

Here are two photos I took of the ladies while they were filming:
