I'm back to share with you all the inside info on the set of Degrassi: The Next Generation. When we were on set filming episode 804, "Didn't We Almost Have it All," Sarah (who plays Liberty) and I were having some fun between takes. I don't know what it is, but something about the combination of being on set early in the morning, and being required to be high energy for filming results in Sarah and I being more than a little hyper once "cut" is called. Sometimes cast members on other projects I've done prefer to keep to themselves in the mornings, but oh no, not us.
We were pretty ridiculous on this particular morning. You see folks, we were filming a scene that takes place in the lecture hall at Smithdale University, and at the spot where our scene begins, there is a wall covered with leaflets containing photographs of random people. Incidentally, except for the fact that one photo in particular was a gentleman who (although I'm sure he's the nicest guy ever) resembled something between a mad scientist and a Chihuahua. Wild hair going everywhere, glasses askew, a look of unbridled bewilderment. No big deal, except that at the beginning of every single take Sarah and I had to return to the same spot, and were confronted with this photograph time and time again. I'd try not to look at it, but I was drawn to it like a moth to the flame. Couldn't help it. Eventually, we came up with a voice for the guy, he was a little high-pitched and Swedish, very confused.
By the time we'd returned to the picture 10 or more times, laughing at the same thing had become so lame that we weren't even laughing at it anymore, we were laughing at how lame we were. As anyone who's ever had a laughing fit can attest, the minute you try to stop, it boils over again. I had to summon every serious bone in my body to get it under control so we could begin the scene. And then I would make eye contact with Sarah and we would both explode. Bad news bears. I think we ruined a fair number of takes (which is bad, people. Be professional. Do as I say not as I do...hehe).
One of the grips asked us what was so funny, I was out of breath from laughing so I simply pointed to the photo and chortled. I could tell by the look on his face he didn't get it, and that made us laugh harder. What can I say? These are the wild things that happen behind the scenes at Degrassi. I know, extreme.
See you next time ladies and gentlemen!
Peace.
