Relive All The 2012 Pop Songs You Loved (And Loved To Hate) With This Great ‘PopLove’ Mash-Up

Can you believe it's already the end of the year? In just a few weeks, we'll be Gangnam Style dancing into 2012. But first, we get to do the awesome retrospective of the year that was. While massive lists of celebrity scandals and Oscar-nominated films/actors are fun, sometimes you need a quick, pithy, fun reminder of 2012. That's where DJ Robin Skouteris comes in, with the “PopLove” mash-up.

As he explains, the compilation samples many of the most popular songs from 2012, though not necessarily all the top 40 hits. His choices are more intuitive:

Its not representing the biggest hits of the year necessarily based on charts. Its just a collection of recent pop hits that fitted together and worked well in my head. I was not trying to balance the artists either, i went with whatever structure felt right. It has songs mostly from 2012 and then some extras. The point was to make a single track that represents the pop scene of today. No rules. 😉

So you can already guess many of the songs that are included in this video: Viral hits like “Call Me Maybe” and “Gangnam Style”; the latest guaranteed hits from Justin Bieber and Madonna; and, setting the bass, earworms like “Somebody That I Used To Know” and “Moves Like Jagger.” These made up the soundtrack for our lives whether we were working, partying, breaking up, falling in love, being irresponsible, being badass. It's not the best mash-up I've ever heard, but I like it a lot. It all flows really well together. And here's the tracklist! Though I'd suggest you listen to it once through on your own to be surprised by some of the arrangements.

Ke$ha – “Die Young”
Owl City ft. Carly Rae Jepsen – “Good Time”
Justin Bieber – “As Long As You Love Me”
Carly Rae Jepsen – “Call Me Maybe”
Calvin Harris – “Feel So Close”
Katy Perry – “Wide Awake”
One Direction – “What Makes You Beautiful”
Flo Rida – “Whistle”
Kelly Clarkson – “Stronger”
Jessie J – “Domino”
Mika – “Love Today”
Psy – “Gangnam Style”
Maroon 5 – “Moves Like Jagger”
Dev – “In the Dark”
NeYo & Calvin Harris – “Let's Go”
Rihanna – “You Da One”
Pink – “Blow Me (One Last Kiss)”
Ellie Goulding – “Lights”
Lady Gaga – “Scheisse”
Gotye – “Somebody That I Used to Know”
Madonna ft. Nicki Minaj & MIA – “Give Me All Your Luvin'”

I do have to say, the reigning champion for pop mash-up (for me, at least) still goes to 2009's “United States of Pop” by DJ Earworm. But if he started a trend, then I'm glad to see other DJs following suit.
