Under The Weather

Right now, I'm sitting in the green room of the Trocadero in Philadelphia. It's a cold and rainy day, the kind of day you'd rather spend at home. Instead of being at home, I'm on tour. Jake, our drummer, is sick right now, and his mood fits the weather outside. Getting sick on tour is terrible. As I said, today is the kind of day I wish I were home, but I understand that being under the weather on the road makes you even more homesick (no pun intended). Tour is amazing and very fun when you feel good. You can hang out with the friends you've made, and you can play well. When you're sick, though, everything is miserable. All you want to do is be in a warm bed, not having to worry about playing a show.

It's Mayday Parade's last blog! Alex says goodbye...

Drive of the Dam-ed
Photo: Chris Marksbury

I could probably count the number of times that I really thought I was going to die on one hand. Actually, I could count those times on three fingers: the first time was when I was much younger and I climbed a tree and could not get down; the second was when I got caught in a storm in my dad's boat; and the third and most recent happened on this tour. We had just left Las Vegas with our pockets a little emptier after a night of gambling. It was my turn to drive the van, and I was not excited, but at least I only had an hour left on my shift. I was also OK with driving because we would be going over the Hoover Dam, which I had never seen. My plan was to drive over the dam and then find a gas station to change drivers. I was really looking forward to this because I had only had two hours of sleep that night and I wanted to sleep the rest of the way to Phoenix. Little did I know that there are no gas stations on the Arizona side of the dam for maybe 65 miles. Once over the dam, I quickly realized this…along with the fact that we did not have enough gas to make it to the gas station. We were totally screwed!

Ahh! You know you need to hear the rest of this creepy story...

California Boys

Traffic sucks! Any logically minded person would think the same, especially after traveling nine hours from Portland, Ore., to Sacramento, Calif., overnight. After sitting in traffic for 30 minutes, we decided to ask a nearby Wal-Mart truck driver what was going on because all truck drivers have those convenient CV radios and know a lot about the roads. He told us power lines fell over the interstate and the roads wouldn't be cleared up for a while. Which leads me to say what I said before: "Traffic sucks!" I guess I can't complain, though. At least we're out of the snow for good.

Jake hearts California! Find out why.

Ice, Ice Baby

This is Brooks, and I don't really write a whole lot of blogs. I'm the quiet one in the group. I would like to dedicate this blog to letting all of our fans know that it really means a lot to all of us to be able to meet and interact with all our fans. I'm sure you have heard us mention that we make ourselves available to meet everyone who wants to talk to us. But I just wanted to let everyone know that I will be at the merch table or working my way there every night of this Emery tour. I want to invite you to come up to take all the pictures and signed autographs that you want. I say this only because I think some of our fans are shy. Don't be shy or embarrassed. We are all really down to earth people.

What happens when take a group Florida boys and have them drive in the snow? Find out!

Derek Says Thanks!

Today is a day off for Mayday Parade. Calling it a day off is misleading though. Even though we're not playing a show tonight, we still have to drive eight hours through the snow from Columbus to Allentown. The days where we truly have a break and don't have to worry about anything are few and far between, but would we have it any other way? Not for a second. We have the greatest job in the world, and I want to begin this blog by thanking you for the continuous love and support. The fact that anyone cares to read these things is more than I could ever ask for.

Derek has some sweet things to say about Heath Ledger. Read on for the rest of his blog...
