Mason grew up in Rockwall, Texas, which is just outside of Dallas. We had a day off, so he convinced us it'd be a good idea to park the bus near his house. There was supposed to be a mall, theater, and other stuff to keep us busy. But the only thing within walking distance was an Exxon gas station and some BBQ restaurant. That's the last time we let Mason choose where we spend our day off!
It turned out to be a good day for me. I worked on some new music. It can be really hard to write on the road with all the distractions and work we have to do, but it was so relaxed on the bus that I had a really productive day. The stuff I'm writing these days is sounding an awful lot like Depeche Mode.
We've been doing a lot of radio interviews lately. When we were in Austin, we went to KISS FM to do an interview; in Dallas, we got up at 6 am to do an interview and performance for Kidd Kraddick. The crazy thing about that was the interview was broadcast on 70 stations across the country! I always get a little nervous when we play shows to a new crowd or to a bigger crowd than usual. I expected to get really anxious for this interview, but it turned out to be more fun than nerve-racking. I guess when I don't actually SEE how big the audience is, I'm not intimidated.
Our song "Shake It" debuted this week on the Top 40 radio charts. I can't even begin to describe how surreal that is. When we started our band, I was just hoping that we would have a chance to record an album, tour, and get our music to as many people as possible. We're all extremely grateful for the success that we've had so far. We've been lucky enough to tour with great bands, and our music is reaching far more people than I imagined when we started. It's a really exciting time for us.
Well, I'm off to fool around with my synthesizers. I'm a nerd.
