To anyone who has ever come to any of our shows, thanks for dancing. It's a thrill to see the crowd move when we play. On many of our tours, including this one, we've been the most dance-oriented band. It's just more fun for us to throw a party instead of just a show. And every time we go back to a city, the party gets even bigger.
We've played Vegas several times but I had never ever gambled until this last trip. I spent a whole fifteen dollars on a slot machine and got nothing. Oh well. I always say that if Las Vegas built a city on people losing money then the odds are pretty much against you. I would rather spend my money on other things, like Frisbees and trail mix. Frisbees are fun. Trail mix is tasty.
We played Bamboozle Left the next day, which was the first time we've ever played a festival. It was the biggest crowd we've ever played to and the response was insane. Whenever we're in a new situation like this, I get a little nervous. I can just imagine tripping on my keyboard stand or getting hit in the face with Mason's guitar for EVERYONE to see. Once we started playing it felt like a bigger version of any other show. We started playing at 1 pm and spent the rest of the day doing interviews for KIIS, KROQ, Buzznet, and one for Bamboozle. When you get used to having cameras and microphones in your face, interviews are fun. After the interviews, I got to see The Bravery from the side of the stage. Pretty awesome. I also saw Goldfinger and My Chemical Romance. Such a cool day.
The next morning, we woke up at 7 am to shoot a movie in Glendale. For most of the band, 9 am is unimaginably early. Getting up at 7 the morning after a festival was pretty crazy, but totally worth it. The movie is about two young skateboarding twins named Nic and Tristan. It felt just like shooting a music video, except there were a couple kids on skateboards getting into trouble onscreen. The kids are hilarious and really good at skating.
We finished filming in the afternoon and I got to head to LA for a few hours before the bus was supposed to leave. It's always amazing to go home to LA. The more we travel, the more I get used to being on the road, but nothing feels better than to see the city I really call home.
