Do you ever feel the need to separate yourself from the image that people had of you in the past?
No, not at all. I'm someone who strives to follow my gut instinct, and my inclination is to be true to myself. I would never, ever want to come across as disingenuous. I make music and I feel lucky in my life and in my career. Not everybody has that advantage and I certainly don't take it for granted, so I'm never motivated by trying to switch it up or throw people off. If anything, it's to keep myself interested, like "What's driving me forward?" I'm always in check with myself.

So you're in the store and "Candy" comes on...
I'd feel slightly embarrassed, but I think I'd feel that way if any [of my songs] came on. [I'd] try and ignore it if I really needed something from the store; otherwise I would probably walk out.
