How did you go about getting into such a tough role?
I come from two parents who are scientists, and so for me, it's always about facts and evidence, so I researched and visited City of Hope, which is a hospital in Pasadena. I also met patients, called cancer hotlines, and found out about statistics, processes, and medical aspects, as well as emotional aspects of children and parents trying to understand as much about the process and what they go through. I had a few wonderful kids, Nicole, Paul, and Kelsey, who were my guiding lights in the process and were on set almost all the time and forged the way with what the experience is really like. That's what I thought was great about this film, that we were honest and didn't hide anything and we showed the topic as what it was.
